Cat in pain

Hi,
We are all stuck in the house with covid, feeling pretty rubbish and unable to get to the vets.
My 11 month old kitten got out last night in the rain and has come back today in pain and stiff. I think she may have had a fall but is weight bearing on all her paws, just feeling really sad and sore. She is sleeping now. What can I do for her? We are abroad with no family support so I can't easily get her to the vets, if at all. We have always had dogs and I worry that she may be masking pain and have an internal injury... Or I could be completely overreacting because I love her. Anyone awake to chat it through with me please?

Check for a bite or wound. One of our days did this and it ended up being a VERY expensive vet bill. (Horrendous abscess on a bank holiday during lockdown).

our days?

Thanks grumpy, I've looked as much as she will let me and I can't see anything. There is a vicious alpha Tom that lives in our neighbourhood so one of my principal worries is that he has done some real damage... Or she's been been hit by a car with a glancing blow. I've spoken to the vet receptionist who won't have anything to do with us because of the covid

Is she eating?

Wolfiefan · 16/01/2022 08:22

If she’s been hit by a car normally the paws would show signs of scraping the road. Hope she’s ok.

oscarandelliesdad · 16/01/2022 08:34

Thanks for taking the time guys. I'm so worried for her, she is holding her body all wrong... I don't see any marks on her paws so that is hopeful . She isn't eating her kibble and not interested in water. I've got an online order of wet food and Dreamies coming to try and tempt her. She is growling at the other cats (we have three rescues the same age) that try and approach her but is letting me stroke her head. If she were a dog I could give her painkillers but cats are so different... Sorry for the crap writing, I've got a pounding headache and three ill kids. Fecking covid.

Would a different vet see you? Could they agree to meet you outside. You put carrier down and get in the car and they take her in and phone you? I’d want pain relief and someone to give her a once over at least. Hope she’s ok.

musicalfrog · 16/01/2022 08:50

Is there anyone you trust to take her in to the vet for you? If you don't have friends or facility nearby are there any local cat rescue centres with volunteers?

musicalfrog · 16/01/2022 08:51

*family not facility

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 16/01/2022 09:29

She needs to see a vet.

Do you have a neighbour who would take her if you popped her in her carrier and left it outside? Or could you drive to the vets and they collect her from the parking area and speak to you by phone?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 16/01/2022 09:29

Sorry OP but based on your description I think your cat really needs to see a vet fairly urgently, even if for nothing else than pain relief.
Please phone round other vets and get her seen.

Wolfiefan's suggestion for the vet sounds very sensible.

oscarandelliesdad · 16/01/2022 10:30

Hi everyone, I'm working on getting a neighbour to take her to a different vet. She has climbed up onto the balcony roof beams while I was in the loo . Is this hopeful that her mobility is OK or bad that she has taken herself off in pain? Trying to get her down with cheese offers. Shit

musicalfrog · 16/01/2022 13:02

Hope you can get her down and to the vets ASAP OP.

oscarandelliesdad · 16/01/2022 15:35

That's great. Covid shouldn't mean pets having to suffer. Shame on the first vet.

Ibizafun · 16/01/2022 15:45

Poor baby. Please give us an update when you can.

Wolfiefan · 16/01/2022 15:45

She’s beautiful. Hope she’s well and home soon.

oscarandelliesdad · 17/01/2022 09:08

Hi everyone,
Just to let you all know that Xrays showed no breaks. She got some pain killers and antibiotics and she woke up today at the vets in fine fettle and starving hungry. Lovely neighbours have just collected her for me and she is on great form, purring and playing with her buddies . Thanks for all your support yesterday. Flowers

Bless you. Only just read this. What a difficult day fir you yesterday
Glad to hear she's doing better. I hope you and the family also get well soon.

(Just an FYI for anyone else reading this in England you are allowed to take an animal for emergency treatment when you are in isolation with Covid).

musicalfrog · 17/01/2022 09:25

That's brilliant OP.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 17/01/2022 09:31

Good news OP. Very pleased to hear it.

KittensTeaAndCake · 17/01/2022 09:37

So pleased it was nothing serious and I hope you're all feeling better soon.

Wolfiefan · 17/01/2022 13:46

Thank goodness!!
