New kittens, boy not eaten since brought home

We picked up our new brother and sister 9 week old babies yesterday. They've settled in really well, super friendly and confident, but the boy (who is small anyway) has not eaten anything since we brought him him at lunchtime yesterday. I've offered the same food they were eating, plus a different dry kind (Hills) plus wet food, but he just sniffs it.

I know it can take a while in a new home (and neither have used the litter trays so far despite being toilet trained) but should I call the vet?

Any advice please? Very worried.

Ps I spoke to the breeder, who said he eats fine normally and not to worry, he will eat, but obviously I am worried, I think nearly 24 hours is too long.

It's not long- try not to worry. Mine took a good 3 or 4 days to find her appetite. And even longer to touch her dry food.

However 9 weeks seems a bit young. You mentioned breeder- are the kittens any particular breed? Usually professional breeders send out their little ones for adoption only around 12 weeks or so.

He may be missing his mum and his former home. Keep him comfortable and leave him to become more confident on his own. It will happen soon- dont worry

9 weeks seems really young.
Leave them alone to find their own feet, if you hover around they're not going to settle as they will feel on edge

Cats can hold on for quite a while with toileting until they feel safe.
Is kitten drinking?
Have you offered any wet food?
I don't think you need to call the vet yet as long as he continues to be bright and energetic.

I wouldn't panic yet. Have you observed his toilet activity? You could try Royal Canin kitten kibble - never knew a cat that turned it down.

Sweetchocolatecandy · 13/01/2022 11:23

Have you tried him with kitten milk? He could just be nervous and missing his mum/old home. If you’re worried and it continues though maybe take him to a vet to rule out any health issues.

Sometimes it is worth trying the Macdonald of kitten food - the one that you'd not normally feed because they aren't great quality but the cat loves them.
Out "kitten" is much much older but recently turned off his food but would eat some of the pouches of felix or lidl food - but not the "good quality" one he normally loves.

Thanks all. I spoke to a vet, who said he needed to be seen so took him earlier - she's given some time of extra calorific food, he's had 1/2 of it with a syringe and definitely perked up a bit already Smile Have to keep going, a syringe an hour.

He is perfectly healthy otherwise but tiny though, she said totally the right thing to have him checked. Might feed them separately as his sister seems dominant.

I had tried all sorts earlier, incl tiny bit of tuna, kitten milk etc.

Fingers crossed

It probably is stress from moving home etc
