Cat flap Issue

Hi, am just wondering if anyone has any ideas regarding a cat flap.

We adopted the lovely cat of my lovely late mother in law in February last year. She's settled in well despite being moved 500 miles away from home to Scotland and being a "senior" cat at 13. (She scowls at you if you mention her age Grin) She had been an indoor/outdoor cat

We kept her in for a few months when we moved her up here, and then looked to get a cat flap put in the back door, we found one that only opened when her chip was detected, but she didn't like using it as it seemed to make a clicky noise as it detected the chip and she'd back away from it. So to allow her to come and go, we set it just to open normally.

We have a couple of cats around, and this morning, for the second time, I've discovered next door's male beastie in my house seemingly having eaten her food, they've then had a mad hissing spitting chase until I've chased him away. (The first time was 4 am one morning months ago. DH chased him off and out) She seems ok, although she is being very vocal and not letting me near her to have a look to check.

My question is, are there any other cat flap options? I've locked it for now as I don't want him coming back in, but it obviously means she can't get out...do the chip sensing ones all make a noise?

Now sitting having a coffee to see if I can get my heart rate down a bit!!

Slightly blurry pic of my fluffy girl just cause!

We have a microchip one that clicks- our cats have developed a technique of just whacking at it with a paw until it swings and only then attempting go through it.

We have the microchip one. We taped the flap up for a week when we first got it to get him used to going in and out and now he is fine with it.

They get used to the click eventually. The click is the lock disengaging

We have a microchip one, it does click.

Took a a few days but our cat got used to it. At first I had to hold the flap up and coax her through using food smeared on the frame of the cat flap.

Then she would go out but not come in, likely due to the click.

We used to have to get up and let her in. Then DH got stuck on the phone and she got fed up waiting to come in and got herself through the cat flap. Now she is perfectly happy using it.

It just takes time. Hopefully your cat will get used to it. Favorite food smeared on the inside maybe.

We used dreamies as an incentive
