New kitten what type of insurance is recommended?

Hi
Please could I get your good expert advice on the type of insurance I’d need for a new kitten. I haven’t had cats before, just dogs and fish, so it’s all mew to me. I’m leaving that typo there !

Kitten is potentially far younger than the owner suggested unbeknownst to me, so I’m aiming to get him into a vet immediately they re-open after the bank holiday. He hasn’t had anything, no flea or worm treatment, nothing. But he’s looking and acting healthy for now.

Never taken fish to the vets obviously, and we had a farm dog so she was running loose most of the time and never got ill, so again, apart from some jabs which I didn’t take her for, I have zero experience of vets.

What kind of cover do new kittens need insurance-wise? For vet bills I suppose? And can you recommend your own pet insurer?

Thankyou in advance Flowers

Get a lifetime policy. With the best cover you can afford. Mine are with Tesco and they have been excellent with their 22k of claims.

@Toddlerteaplease would you be able to tell me if that would cover things like vet costs for general check ups and queries please as well as all the initial flea, worm, spay, etc that a new kitten will need? I’m on the Tesco pet insurance web page now but can’t find a Live Chat to ask this.

No, those are directly from the vet. Some people find them worthwhile, some don't. Many vets will have a kitten club.

@Toddlerteaplease ok great thanks. I’ll ask the vet about how is best to pay for potential bills then I think and whether they have a kitten club. That’s useful to know.

I joined the monthly vet payment plan...£15 ish a month for flee and worm treatment, a checkup every six months and annual vaccinations and a percentage off any treatments. Not sure if it is good value but I like the security of it.

I went with petplan for insurance, it is about £20 a month. Our kitten was six weeks old when we got him. I took him straight to the vet for a check up and we got a month's worth of insurance with petplan. I just carried on with it after that. I didn't spend much time looking around but I know petplan has a good reputation so was happy just to go for that.
