Rodney’s first Christmas

Happy Christmas everyone, I’m in the kitchen wrangling a beef Wellington and various veg. Rodney’s already had a raw sprout out of the pan and played football with it. He’s now 9 months old and has turned from a bitey little bastard into a really affectionate cat; still has his moments but it’s rare. Thanks to everyone who responded to my posts this year asking for help when we didn’t know how to cope with him. To anyone who might be struggling with a young, aggressive cat, I’d say hang on in there, it does get better as they get older. Here’s Rodney surveying his territory.

Hello, Rodney. You are a sweetie. Enjoy your time with your new humans.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 25/12/2021 13:25

i remember that earlier post. I'm so glad he's turned into such a handsome keeper Grin

AlfonsoTheGoat · 25/12/2021 13:39

I once read that a cat's ability to stand on its hind legs is a measure of intelligence. I have no idea of that's true, and I see that Rodney is leaning on something, but it might be that he is very intelligent and thus was a bit of a handful.

DontKeepTheFaith · 25/12/2021 14:29

Merry Christmas Rodney and family🎄😍 He is gorgeous.

If standing on one’s hind legs is a sign of intelligence, my cat is as thick as pig shit🤣 Sort of knew that anyway!

Angel and her cosmic banana say Merry Christmas😻😻

Hmm my two never stand on their hind legs. Can't say I'm surprised really!

Vinorosso74 · 25/12/2021 15:02

Merry Christmas to all you cats and cat slaves!
Good to see Rodney happy. Our lad was 9 or 10 months when we adopted him and he was a thug! He chewed through food containers, chewed the blinds and a lamp shade; started fights with any other cat. He still hates most other cats and is obsessed with food but he has mellowed a lot and is quite a snuggle bug so they are worth persevering with.

EachandEveryone · 25/12/2021 20:17

Does he go out into that beautiful garden? He is lovely.

TC176 · 27/12/2021 13:10

Thanks for everyone’s replies, it’s lovely to hear from other cat slaves. I tried to post a message and photo yesterday but the file was too big and I didn’t know how to delete it. @EachandEveryone, Rodney does go into the garden. He likes me, not DH, to carry him round for his first venture outside in the morning. He’ll jump down to sniff around or climb his favourite tree, thankfully we’ve got high hedges so the neighbours can’t see me. Does anyone else have a very greedy cat? Rodney will eat ANYTHING, we have to shut ourselves in the kitchen to eat while he cries outside because he’d have his face in our food if he could. No snacks or cheese and biscuits in front of the tv anymore. I’m just grateful he doesn’t like wine!

Here he is just now after a hard morning supervising DH remasticing the shower. Oh yes, we’re in full post-Christmas mode at TC Towers today.

It's so satisfying, isn't it?!

Our Bennie was a feral kitten rescued by the RSPCA when we adopted him. He'd never even been inside a house, much less handled or cuddled due to biting everyone. He's now 14 and a half and is an adorable teddy bear who loves being stroked.

Nothing says Christmas like re-masticing the bathroom does it?

TC176 · 27/12/2021 20:19

@Fluffycloudland77 It’s the most exciting part - in our house anyway. Sigh. DH is a very lovely man with a deep and enduring hatred of Christmas, which I sadly didn’t find out until we were shackled together.

He's beautiful. We have a rescue who is still wary of being stroked and a bit bitey although he threatens to bite more than actual bites. He's massive and unable to stand on hind legs and also goes crazy if he knows we're eating food, especially meat. I feel awful shutting him in the halfway whilst we eat, he just sits at the door crying and begging to be let in.

TC176 · 28/12/2021 13:25

@Cleanmean It’s awful isn’t it, you can’t enjoy your food properly because of the guilt, even though you know they’re fed enough. It’s the pathetic mewing. How old is your boy? I think we need to see a photo. How long have you had him?
