How much does your biscuit fed cat drink?

My two have around 25g of royal canin dry food twice a day.

They drink around three small dipping sauce size bowls a day.

Is that alot?

Each or between them?

I don't know how much my cat drinks but she does seem to drink a lot as she is always drinking my glasses of water! She has her own glass of water as well, and likes puddles and the bird bath too 😊

Do they have wet food as well?

dipping sauce bowl?
I dunno, truth be told, but I find I need to top up the bowls almost daily they are cereal sized bowls ... would probably need a week for all 3 to get empty 3 cats, puddles & ponds taste nicer, i observe

CucumberCool · 19/12/2021 09:21

So I measured the bowls and they are drinking around 350ml ish a day.

That's between then and have no wet food.

I've never measured but he's enjoys a drink after his food and he usually swishes the water around with his paws first. It's a Petmate with the mechanism taken out as he doesn't like it but it holds quite a bit.

TroysMammy · 19/12/2021 09:26

He doesn't do puddles or the sink or shower, only his bowl.

TheCreamCaker · 19/12/2021 09:27

Cats shouldn't be fed dry food only - they can get kidney/urinary tract problems. My old boy has 1 pouch, 3 times a day, has dry food down 24/7, and a huge bowl of water.

Owned cats for 41 years

Whatisgoingdown · 19/12/2021 09:30

Since getting my cats a fountain bowl, they drink loads more. They prefer it to a still bowl of water.

dementedpixie · 19/12/2021 09:33

One of mine drinks out the bowl and the other drinks out the pond. Have no idea how much they take

dementedpixie · 19/12/2021 09:35

Although mine get offered wet food too but often turn their noses up at what they're given

RandomMess · 19/12/2021 09:35

One of mine drinks a lot more than the other tbh. My old boy would only drink from the running kitchen tap 🙄 drinking fountain was rejected unless you cleaned it out every day.

CucumberCool · 19/12/2021 09:36

@TheCreamCaker
Ah, vets said they don't need wet food too as royal cabin has everything they need.

I was feeding them both wet and dry and it turned out it was massively too much for them!

Mine won't eat wet food I try occasionally but nope they like the crunch

They turn the tap on and drink from that and use the bowls for paw washing

You just reduce the amount of dry if you feel it's too much, but I have to say that 25g of biscuits each a day doesn't seem like a lot of food at all.

Mine get an 80g sachet of wet food each per day and unlimited access to dry.

icedcoffees · 20/12/2021 07:59

Ah, I see that's twice a day so 50g a day.

Is there any reason you don't just do unlimited dry and wet twice a day? That's what I've always done with mine.

normanthegonk · 20/12/2021 08:02

ours drinks from the pond. .has water in the house but never drinks from it.well I have never seen her drink from it.

SerfNTerf · 20/12/2021 08:06

Our cats only get dry food, but they supplement with frequent mice/voles/baby rabbits/spiders and on one occasion a fucking bat Hmm

They don't touch their water, ever, but I leave it out and freshly replenished anyway. Sometimes they drink from the dog bowl and I've seen them drink from the pond.

sunshineandshowers40 · 20/12/2021 08:07

Is your water bowl next to your cat's food bowl? Our vet said they like distance between their food and drink.

RandomMess · 20/12/2021 09:45

We have 4 drinking bowls in various positions around the house but they prefer to steal fresh water from my glass whenever possible 🤣

Cats with outdoor access will usually prefer to forage out there for rain/pond water.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/12/2021 11:14

Mine have a fountain so difficult to tell. But is broken and they've had about 300 ml between them a day.

CucumberCool · 20/12/2021 19:23

If I left out unlimited food they would become very fat catties!!

Water bowl is near the food bowls. They don't seem to mind.

Sounds like they eat and drink an average amount. I think they probably do drink from puddles outside too.

The boy also suppliments with mice and other small rodents, he had two squirrels when he was a kitten..convinced he found them dead though...one was in a plastic bag..! He also brought in a quail once, so quite exquisite taste!

RandomMess · 20/12/2021 21:03

The rat in mousetrap was a particularly yucky gift as were a family of squirrels one by one Sad but at least they were greys rather than reds!!

Mumdiva99 · 21/12/2021 07:38

I wouldn't worry as it's good they are drinking. But I would leave them a nice big bowl of water so they don't run out. I leave 2 for my cats....the one next to their food and one in the hall - which they prefer. But really they prefer a stagnant bowl or rainwater, a glass no one is watching, locking the tap until a drip comes out......
