I really do love my cat so much!

My cat came to live with me 16 months ago. He was an injured stray who had been taken to an animal shelter, where he stayed for 3 months. During that time they were unable to regime him because he was so terrified, he constantly hid. As a last resort they passed him to a cat rescue charity, and I took him on as a foster cat. The plan was to rehabilitate him, so that eventually he could find a permanent home.

When he came to live with me his behaviour was quite bizarre. After a week of hiding from me, he started coming out in the evening. In the evening he would walk around my flat constantly yowling at the top of his voice. He would frequently approach me, looking like he wanted a stroke, but once he got within a meter he would hiss at me and then run away! Sometimes I would be sitting on my own minding my own business and he would come up to me and hiss! He used to scratch and bite alot. He was also petrified of any and every sound.

Over time with lots of calmness and gentleness he started to trust me. It took 6 months before he completely stopped hissing! Now if he hears an unfamiliar noise, he looks at me as if to say, are we safe? I always tell him it's okay and he completely relaxes....it's so cute!!

He's the most adorable little companion. He never bites me now. He sometimes scratches, but that's because he has got over excited playing! He demands to be fed at 3am, but I've overcome this problem by setting up a timed cat feeder, so he can have his midnight feast without disturbing me!

I had been through a really difficult time in my life before he arrived and I was very lonely. He is such an amazing little companion for me. We are so happy together. So, I really do love my cat so much 🥰

....ooh, and even though he was a foster cat, I ended up adopting him! I just couldn't give him away!

I love a cat rescue story! Here’s my sweet girl, rescued in June 2020. She’s brought so much love and affection to us.

I love my cat. Everytime
I come home she jumps off a bed demanding attention and we talk (she meows) about our days. I ask if she's done any housework and I swear she tells me she's been too busy dozing. It's lovely to have a furry friend who just want food and cuddles.

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 20/12/2021 09:44

What a wonderful thread. I am so happy for both of you, OP.

Hemskis · 20/12/2021 09:47

I rescued my two on spring and the grey cat Lucy caused me endless worries. She was scrawny, list her fur, had endless bet treatments and was just incredibly scared.
Now she is still a bit nervous but is a chunky fluff ball who demands play and cuddles. I've included a picture from early on, the difference is amazing, like a different cat.
The little black and white is Jas who is just utterly sweet.

Wow, @Ilovemycatsomuch, what an absolute beauty!

I'm another one with a house full of "failed fosters" as we call them (but with dogs rather than cats, we got our cats as kittens) - that feeling when they finally start to trust is just amazing.

Gorgeous cat photos everyone. And @Hemskis, that's a splendid cuddle puddle!

Op the fact he grew to trust you is the loveliest thing and a testament to your love. He's gorgeous and will never stop loving you.

Ohyay · 21/12/2021 22:47

This is such a lovely thread. My cat was abandoned when pregnant. When the rescue centre brought her, she said she may hide and be nervous etc. She strutted out the cat carrier found the bedroom and got on the bed. Shes been there ever since Smile I adore her. She adores me but is so god damn rude to others (which I secretly love)

Ilovemycatsomuch · 22/12/2021 00:08

@Ohyay haha, she knows how to 'cat'!

Love this thread. We got our rescue 6 months ago, I was forced into it by the kids as I was terrified of cats. I'm now obsessed with him and he has become my shadow. He's a huge chunk of love, but still very wary and scared. Slowly he's starting to trust us and we receive instruction meows throughout the day to feed him, open the door, close the door, make room by the fire, move away from mum so he can sit near her etc etc. We adore him and watching him go from terrified edgy cat to bossy and trusting has been amazing.

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 23/12/2021 09:29

What a lovely story, @Cleanmean. You need to keep us updated on his progress.

I am so pleased to read this. I have never posted on here before, but we got our kitten in September and I am utterly in love with him. I have so enjoyed seeing my children with him and the love that he brings out in them. My husband doesn't get it...says 'he is just a cat'!!!!! He means the world to me. Lovely to see it so openly expressed in here 😊

I really do love my cat so much!
