Bringing home rescue kitty on weds - what do we need to know?

So nervous! Have had cats before but many years ago and this feels like a huge leap! We've had dogs for the last 10 years until we lost our last one 15 months ago.

He's a 4 year old boy. A former stray. The rescue say he's affectionate and very "chatty". What should we expect?

Possibly a stupid question also but our house is small, a 2up 2down terrace. Where would you put his litter tray?! Starting to get myself in a panic that we aren't going to be a good home for him!

Any advice gratefully received x

Argh. I keep reading the title as "rescue kitty on weed" and thinking "what kind of horrible person makes their cat a drug addict?"

Unusual for a rescue to rehome a cat this close to christmas. Normally they stop rehoming in december.

Are you having a quiet one? As you’ll need to keep noise and movement to a minimum.

I’d park up on the sofa and let him come to you. Ours had a dog cage for the first few months which she moved into once she came out from behind the toilet. At first she stayed there and only came out at night when everything was still and quiet.

I agree it isn't usual. We are an adult only household, no kids and no visiting kids so very quiet and calm. When I spoke to them they did make sure I wasn't a "getting a pet for christmas" person. I just explained that it is a good time because my work closes on xmas eve and we don't go back until 5th January so plenty of time for me to be at home and settle him in Smile

Oh wow, he’s gorgeous. Lovely white ‘socks’😍

Hope he settles in well, exciting times🥰

Well he is home. He is the noisiest creature on earth Grin

He was very unsettled when we got him home, as expected. Paced about swishing his tail and meowing for about 5 hours (non-stop!). Wolfed his food down like he hadn't been fed in a month. Very affectionate, loves to talk to you and answers you back when you speak to him Grin

Here is looking at me as if to say who the hell are you and where are my dreamies

He's very skinny so needs feeding up.

Oh wow he is a cat with attitude! Love his tuxedo markings and the expression on his face. Makes me think of American gangster movies - he is Dandy Dan from Bugsy Malone!

I love vocal cats, one of ours is an actual gossip. We have long conversation where she tells me all that is going on in the house.

Hope he continues to settle in well and you all have a lovely cat-focussed Christmas!

He's got you under the paw already! He's gorgeous.
