Cat flap in wall - how many flaps?

If you have a cat flap installed through the wall, how many actual flaps are there?

Our builder has just installed ours, and there's only one actual flap, on the inside. The tunnel through the wall is then completely open on the outside.

Is that right? Or should there be another flap on the outside too?

Ours is like that. I suppose you could put another one on the outside too but it didn't really occur to me. Our cat likes to hang out in the tunnel so he can watch the garden without getting wet!

Ours only has one flap and is utterly pointless because the two little buggers won't entertain it. We are still at their beck and call, getting up to open and close the garden door when they fancy a stroll round the garden or want to come it. They tap on the glass to let us know action is required.

Just one flap for is too. It's how sureflap said to install.

I’ve only had door flaps but picturing a wall flap I’d be worried cat might become stuck with two - kind of wedged by the outside one half open inside the wall etc ?

We have two cat flaps, so one internal, then you have a ‘tunnel’ through the wall, with a second external cat flap. The internal one is an automatic lockable one operated by our cats microchip, so no other cats can enter the house, but the outside one is accessible to anything. So technically another cat could get into the ‘tunnel’ from outside, but would be unable to get through the internal flap. I’ve never seen this happen though. I prefer two as it doesn’t look right from the outside just having the one (they’d be a gaping hole?), and it stops too much cold air coming through the wall. I guess either works so it’s just personal choice

Both of ours are sureflap

We have two also and exactly as above forces

  • for us (not forces)

Great! This is really helpful - so our installation isn't unusual, but there's another option too similar to custardbear and canyoutoleratethis.

That's exactly the two things I'm a bit concerned about - the external hole looks a bit weird, and is a bit draughty. I'll look into a basic flap for the outside.

If I only had one I would fit it outside (with apologies to op cat who likes to sit in the tunnel and look out). Then I’d finish the inner entrance with beading - and of course velvet/a mister and massage rollers - everything cat expects when returning to their throne room/dining area.
