I have a less than one yr old cat and a 10+ yr old cat and I need them on the same dry food - as they swop bowls so separate foods is a pain.

Anyone know what I should be looking for in cat food ingredients that make it "good" food.
I'm looking at these two that the moment.

IAMS

happy cat

Older cat can be fussy. She loves Applaws but that's too expensive as younger cat eats like a savage. Younger cat has refused to eat beefy flavoured food though.

I'd like to have them both on the same, good quality but not really expensive dry food.

Cats!! Hmm They can be soo fussy!

I also have young & old - all on Bozita chunks at moment. Not saying that's best. I just realised there's a hairball problem in the 10yr old cat, but separate food isn't realistic every day.

I used to have multiple cats of all ages (and appetites!) in one household, the way I managed it was to give them half their meal at a time.

Half a meal was the most the lighter eaters would have in one go and a mere quarter of what Mrs Greedy would eat. Mrs Greedy would then get her next bit while the others wandered off.

I couldn't prevent them from not eating the others food altogether but it did ensure that they mostly ate the right foods.

Can’t help about cat food but would suggest a microchip cat feeder to stop the younger cat stealing food. Expensive but worth it in my experience.

Currently older cat is feed on a height, younger cat on the floor.
YC will eat his own, the older cat and sometimes the dogs food. The dog will eat YC's food (if everyone leaves the room). OC likes to snack on dry food during the night so overnight the house is separated in such a way to allow for this.
All in all I'm descending into mad cat (and dog) lady territory! They've settled on a common wet food - now I just need a common dry food and potentially I might be able to clear some of the seven million bags of food out of my utility room.

I don't restrict or measure food for the cats, so if they were both on the same dry food stealing and swooping between bowls would be fine.
