Carrier for a reluctant cat

Hello - wondered if anyone can recommend a carrier that's easy(ish!) to get a cat who really doesn't want to go to the vet into? Our recent attempted trip for the annual vaccines didn't go to plan and we've got to try again this week, any recommendations gratefully accepted!

Not a specific model, but get a top opening one. Far easier to put the cat into.

Ours is top opening. It is fabric and has a double zip. Game changer. From pets at home.

Hi We ended up buying a wire cage for our cat. It's cometely open so he can see where he's going, and it's a top opener o easy to just drop the cat in. Once in he settles down because he can see what is happening

Ohh thank you. The fabric one sounds like a good idea, I can imagine that being easier to bundle her into!

Thanks - I'll have a look at the cage idea too!

We have one of these, although j think its bigger

Clarich007 · 05/12/2021 18:34

Haha it's not easy getting them in the carrier!

Clarich007 · 05/12/2021 18:35

Our cage is the same as In the labyrinth's. It's really good

Have the same as the one posted above. Was recommended by the vet too. Easy to get the cat into and out of. Easy to clean, really sturdy and impossible for a cat to break out of. Long lasting, I’ve had mine 15 years. I put old towels in the bottom and sling a blanket over the top.

I actually bought a mesh/fabric dog carrier from amazon and my cat loves it (as much as she can do when she knows it involves involves vets!) she can see out on all sides, it has top and both side zips, and also because it's a carry strap she is close to me when I'm carrying her (is also has a lock for seat belts if using in a car but I walk)

Thanks everyone, this is so useful. Never had a problem before but for some reason this year she's not having any of it so it's definitely time for a carrier upgrade....

I have this one. It can be used on a bike (you need some equipment for the bike so that the basket stays fixed during a ride) but I also use it when I take Micky to the vet by car. Micky and my previous cat love the basket - as does my vet because it makes removing cats from it and putting it back inside very easy.

Before I got the basket, my previous cat Mia used to be very noisy during car rides. This stopped immediately when I got it. I also find it much easier to put a cat inside the basket.

The basket is meant for small dogs so I secured it with some cat netting. It isn’t cheap but makes trips to the vet so much easier.

I have the IMAC Linus cabrio which opens at the top as well as the front.,

I've got a curver picnic basket style one. It's brilliant and easy to carry two at Once. Though cheddar would disagree

Thanks everyone for your help with this. I ended up getting one of the wire ones and did manage to wrestle her in and get get to the vets today! Can't say she seemed happy but it was far, far easier than the old one. I love the pics of the cats enjoying (or not..) their baskets!

Top opener , they can't fight you off!

My cat escaped from a fabric one in the car when she was a kitten 😂🙈

Tips that might help
Start casually shutting doors before you need to go so they end up in the smallest room or hallway with nothing to hide. Bathroom is good as no carpet to cling claws on
In my experience you have one shot, or it's over Grin
I literally scruff mine, and shove/drop him in with a towel in the other hand to protect from claws
