Where does your cat sleep at night?

I have a 16 week old cat and as cute as he is, sleeping with him in the room can be a nightmare. When he's on the bed, I can't sleep properly because I'm so worried about myself or my partner rolling onto him! This means I never sleep deeply because I'm always on alert. He also loves to climb on my pillow leaving me no room.

On the other hand, I feel absolutely awful for some reason shutting him out of our bedroom or downstairs! He has places to sleep, eat, drink, play and toilet of course, but I can't help but feel bad for not letting him snuggle with us.

I am 32 weeks pregnant and do realise that when the baby is here he won't be able to be in the same room anyway because he of course will inevitably jump into the crib.

So where do your cats sleep (or not sleep!) in your house? Hopefully I'm not being cruel and it's just my pregnancy emotions making me feel bad Grin I

Sofa. Just like this 🙃

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 30/11/2021 07:13

I'm not sure. She starts off on my bed and then leaves when I start snoring and turning over. I am a restless sleeper.she appears again around 6am. I suspect she sleeps in my spare room..

Noducksgiven · 30/11/2021 07:14

Mine flits between my bed and ds's bed. Usually sleeps at my feet so yes I have to be aware when turning over in case I launch her across the room (she's a tiny cat!). I do shut her downstairs on occasion when starts her zoomie nonsense late at night Hmm.

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 30/11/2021 07:31

My cat has always been shut in the dining room at night. She cried the first night, but has been fine ever since (she's ten now). She seems to mostly sleep on the floor (usually under a the table or a chair) despite having a lovely comfortable bed. She goes through phases of using the bed in the evenings, but the chances of finding her there in the morning are slim to none.

If she hides somewhere and doesn't get put to bed, you'll inevitably be woken up by having your face licked at about 4am...

We have three cats and they're all shut downstairs at night and have been since the day they were brought home so they don't know any different. They're 6, 5 and 1 now.

They have the run of the downstairs, and access to food, water and their litter trays, as well as scratching posts, beds, blankets, cushions and the sofa for sleeping.

This morning I came down to the two oldest curled up on their cat tower and the youngest eating some biscuits.

violetbunny · 30/11/2021 10:04

Boycat sleeps on me or wedged between my legs. Girlcat sleeps by my feet and waits for Boycat to leave in the morning so she can come and have cuddles (they don't get on with one another). If it's cold they sleep one on each side of me for warmth, the little leeches.

I had the same concerns as you when they were kittens that we would squash one, but they grew so quickly it wasn't a concern for long!

Here's me with Girlcat the other week, it was morning and neither of us wanted to get up Grin

@HirplesWithHaggis on top of the fire wood?! How is that comfortable!

@FliesAreMad He is gorgeous!

@bizboz This seems to be our problem. At around 5:45 almost every morning he zooms around the house and ends up attacking our feet under the duvet!

@NomDePrune laughing at the weird flying jump! He looks so innocent and cute in that pictureGrin

@violetbunny is that Girlcat under the covers with you?! How cute!

Well thank you everyone for your replies! I've had a lot of fun reading them, cats are so funny and have so much character Grin

I shut Kiwi out of the bedroom last night, but at 5:00 I was woken by a scratching noise..it was him scratching up the carpet!Angry I assume this was in protest of me not allowing the cuddles. When I then got up for a wee, he was weaving in between my legs and meowing at me so I ended up letting him in and next thing I knew I had a purring loaf of bread snuggled up on my pillow. That's how we stayed until I got up.

Who needs a made bed when you have that fluffy awesomeness to look at Grin
BobbieT1999 · 01/12/2021 01:55

@bethabean I want him. I shall have him and you can make your bed. Grin

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/12/2021 19:32

Ours is shut in the kitchen. She has a bed in there which is currently out of favour, and my work chair is in. For now. The chair can clearly never, ever go back to my workplace.

Am I the only one who chucks my cat out at night as otherwise the fluffy little bastard wakes me up at 3am? Blush

NotMyCat · 01/12/2021 19:48

On his own bed Grin

Deadringer · 01/12/2021 19:56

Our cat sleeps on a chair in the kitchen at night. She has access to her water, litter and scratching post. No way would i have her in the bedroom, i find it hard to sleep as it is.

catlady79 · 01/12/2021 20:17

On my bed as close to me as possible, which can be annoying at times. I am a real fidget so sometimes he gets cross and takes himself off to the sofa Smile

Toddlerteaplease · 01/12/2021 21:12

On my head if they can. I frequently have both pillows stolen a

Tensmum29 · 01/12/2021 21:16

Oh he is just adorable OP. Our cats were always fine around our babies and yes they stayed in our room. Babies will be a change for your cat so if you are going to change the rules you need to do it now. Good luck though!!

YewandOak · 01/12/2021 21:22

Anywhere they like as long as it's not my bed.Usually on the settee I think, going by the cushions in the morning.

WhatsWrongWithMyUsername · 01/12/2021 21:31

In the kitchen - it’s a kitchen diner with a cat bed, cat tree, sofa. They take themselves off there after they’ve got the children to sleep.

I do like them sleeping cuddled up with me, but one in particular likes a bit of 3am kitty parkour, which usually involves falling off the headboard onto my face.

Pudmyboy · 01/12/2021 21:37

My boy slept on the end of my bed till this week: I have put a blanket on the bed due to the colder weather and he seems to have taken offence. Previously he only slept elsewhere in the summer. He likes a cool spot.
I am sad. 😿
#Bad cat slave!

JoanOgden · 01/12/2021 21:38

On my bed - usually curled up neatly at my feet, but sometimes at dawn she walks up over me and curls up on my head. I have become surprisingly adept at falling asleep with a cat on my head.

@WhatsWrongWithMyUsername I love that image!

KittyBurrito · 01/12/2021 21:48

Downstairs with a warm bed, cat tree, food, water and litter trays otherwise we get walked over and miaowed at at 11pm, 1am, 4am. It's a shame as is she just settled down quietly, we would be happy to let her stay. So now she's getting older, we try every now and then to see if she's worked it out. But nope....

SisyphusDad · 01/12/2021 21:51

Simple. Wherever they feel like whenever they feel like it.

LubaLuca · 01/12/2021 21:51

They have a bed each in the utility room, one in an igloo on the worktop and the other in a radiator hammock. They're bloody pests if they manage to sneak in at night, climbing all over me in bed or scrapping on the stairs.
