Looking for a bit of advice wise ones. So my lovely cat is currently in kitty hospital because he has a urinary blockage and has had to be catheterised. Luckily I noticed him over grooming “that” area and straining to wee so phoned the vets and they told me to bring him straight in. They agreed it should go on an existing insurance claim from the beginning of last month because he’d been in then with urinary crystals, which obviously got no better. He has to be in a clinical setting while he’s got the catheter and as my vets don’t have an overnight facility, I’ve been ferrying him between them and out of hours vet (who my vet had called ahead to let them know we'd be coming in).
They’re a different practice to my own vets and have been trying to make me pay my insurance excess again. I tried to explain this morning when I picked him up to transfer back to my vet for the day, but they weren’t having it so I called my insurer and they told me I should only pay the excess once. When I took him back this evening, they started talking about the excess again so I told them I’d called the insurer and they told me I should only pay the excess once. The response was still that they take it because they’re a different company and doing a separate claim so whoever puts the claim in first, the other excess then gets refunded by the insurer. I stood my ground and said that my vet already put in the claim as it’s an existing one and so the excess was paid last month so I don't need to pay it a second time. She then went off to talk to someone, came back and said that was fine, I paid their extortionate admin fees, said goodnight to the cat and left.
I'm a little worried that I'll get the same thing again in the morning when I go to pick him up again. Hopefully he'll be home later on tomorrow so won't have to gonna l there a third night but I don't think I can have the same argument again tomorrow morning, especially if it's the same receptionist as this morning.
Has anyone had this happen and any words of wisdom?
