Loose poo

Apologies for the rather yucky topic. My cat has had a couple of loose smelly poos in the litter tray recently, weirdly about a week apart but she does go outside so I don't know if she's done more out there. She is otherwise completely fine in herself, eating her usual food, behaving normally. I will of course take her to the vets but not sure how urgent it is? Any advice gratefully received Smile

Keep monitoring frequency, colour, consistency.
Hopefully it is nothing unusual - a simple deworming will probably be recommended by the vet.
If it continues and you live near a lake/stream/lots of other cats, feral/strays/forest you could test for Giardia, which can destroy their immune system long term. Usually lies low and undetected. The vet can advise, paying for tests is worth it and much cheaper than later treatments.

Thank you for that information. Will definitely keep an eye on it.

My vat has this occasionally. But she had blood in hers. The vet gave her some Kaolin paste to form it up.

Thank you. No blood that I could see.

If it continues for another day or two, go to the vet. Loose stools aren’t normal, and can cause dehydration. Then it is a fast downward spiral. Hopefully it will be gone tomorrow.

A bit more diarrhoea in the litter tray and she's been sick so definitely ringing the vets this morning Sad

Booked in for 1pm. Fingers crossed it's nothing serious. Hate it when they're poorly Sad

Good. The vet will help.
D plus V is very bad if not treated as cats drink so little anyway. But it is easily stabilised. They will probably give your cat an anti-emetic, and if it doesn’t work, PLEASE contact/go back to the vet within 6 hours.

(I am speaking from an overly anxious position, as I have another thread on here about a cat that got very sick 24 hours after coming from the shelter, he is on the mend now, bit the anti-emetic didn’t work and the next day he was very weakened and needed an emergency drip. Turns out he had advanced giardia, probably for months, common in strays/lost cats. That is a special situation and will NOT apply to your cat, I am just still shaken by the episode)

Hopefully it is nothing but too many garden mice being eaten ❤️

Thanks @AppleButter sorry you had that experience. The vet has given her an anti inflammatory injection and some stuff to sprinkle on her food. She said she's not dehydrated, no temperature and as she is still eating and drinking she's not overly concerned. Just have to keep an eye on her over the next 48 hours.

Hi op. Has DC recovered?

thingamebob · 13/11/2021 23:50

Hi, thanks for asking. Yes all fine now. Vet thinks possibly something she hunted and ate that upset her stomach. She got over it quickly thank goodness.
