Moved last week. Was trying to keep my old boy in. But he was getting very upset. So did a few test runs this morning and came back fine.

He has been out a third time and is not back after a few hours. My Dh keeps telling me he will be back. But I am just so worried. This will be okay?

He will be fine, he's just exploring.

I know the worry well and sometimes when you've just moved they can stay out longer than usual but he'll come back.

I keep shaking the dreamies which he came back for this morning.

Oh I can imagine how distraught you are atm.

Your DH may be right he may come home after exploring.

Have you moved far from your last home...is it possible that Dcat has tried to make his way back to your old house.

Put his litter tray outside so that he can smell it, also if he has anything he likes to snuggle on, sweater, blanket, hang it outside and hopefully the smell will lead him back home.

If he likes dreamies or tuna shake and rattle close to your home.

Hope he comes home soon.

I know its upsetting but give him time.

I've ended up sobbing numerous times when beloved cat stayed out longer than usual, so I really do understand but don't worry until you actually have something to worry about.

Personally I would not let my cat out but I am very much in the minority, I know. I have seen, and read, some horrific things and every cat I have ever known ended up badly for going out. Hope your one comes home safely, fingers crossed he realises you have his treats :)

Is he back? Same thing happened to us a few weeks ago. She was hiding under the decking (black cat, 8:30pm).

We went outside and talked between ourselves so she could hear our voices, and we heard a tiny mew, eventually traced her to under the decking.

Fingers crossed, it's worth imagining him finding his way home

Has he come home?

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 03/11/2021 04:48

He did. Took a while though. Now he is happily coming and going. I need a cat flap.

Every cat you've ever known? Really? Cats want to roam. A small number can cope ok as indoor cats but it's in their nature to be outside and explore and chase and smell and run. I'd rather my cat lived a fulfilling life with the risk of something bad happening than stayed indoors all their life.

Phew! It's nerve wracking. I tried keeping my boy in for the recommended 2 weeks after I moved but he was like Houdini and any open window was an escape route. He ended up going out freely from a week as I started leaving a window open until I got a cat flap. You can't fight their nature! They are so smart though and they do know their homes very quickly.
