Overgrooming at start of winter

Hi, wonder if anyone had a similar problem and got to the bottom of it. For the past few years, since we moved house, our cat overgrooms his legs and tummy until they are bald. We saw a vet a few times and they tried steroid injections and wondered if it might be a mental health issue. By spring the fur is growing back.

He is very happy in the house as he now has a garden but doesn't want to go out much once the weather gets colder.

One thing is the house is a bit colder than where we were before. But this year we've had the heating on a timer for a few weeks and it hasn't got that cold yet, so I don't think he has been particularly cold. But I did wonder if he had dry skin that was itchy...

Any ideas? Thanks!

Our cats groom more over winter because we have the central heating on. They shed much more at this time of year too.

Interesting thanks. I keep telling ours he should be keeping his coat at this time of year! Our house isn't warm.

He is all patchy with a bald tummy and bald bits of legs so it is definitely 'over' grooming.
