Kitten out of sorts after spay

Day 3 since my 5 month old kitten was spayed. She seemed to have recovered fine, was happy eating, drinking using litter tray and playing. Today she just seems very tired, is moving slow and not eating much. She has just been to the vets and temp slightly raised but vet wasn't concerned about signs of infection. Is this a normal stage of recovery ? Am wondering if she hurt herself over night so is just taking it easy. I have seen her eat and drink a little and use the litter tray in the last hour. Am feeling anxious.

If you have ruled out infection it's likely just to be the after-effects of the operation. Though routine, it's quite a big operation when you think about it. Keep an eye on her and get her back to the vets if her condition deteriorates.

I had a cat with an infected spay wound and it was very obvious - it developed overnight and in the morning she couldn't walk properly and growled when we went near her. It was easily sorted - the vet drained the wound and gave antibiotics - but she had to wear a 'lampshade' for weeks afterwards which she hated.

OK thanks. The wound looks clean and dry. Yes vet said return if any worries at all.

When my cat was infected, the wound was livid red and swollen, so that sounds good.

It may be that the painkiller she was given has now worn off, and she's feeling it more today than when it was still in force.

If she's off her food, try warming it up as warm food smells more and tempts them to eat.

Hope she's back to her normal self soon.

Has she been on painrelief for the last few days? I think kine had to have it for 3 days after and they were a bit subdued but much better by day 5ish

Yes shes had pain relief. I am hoping she gets some rest and is back to normal soon.

Quick update for anyone else reading this thread in future etc - had to call emergency vet this morning. They are keeping her in over night for fluids and antibiotics, suspected internal infection. Glad I trusted my gut and got her in. Also glad I stayed with her over night last night and gave small amounts of kitten milk as I imagine she would have been in a worse state today if I hadn't. I know this surgery is normally straight forward but I feel awful that she is suffering.

It's not anyones fault but am slightly miffed that when they noticed raised temp yesterday they didn't give antibiotics, suppose they couldn't know she would get worse ?

Oh, poor her. Well done for getting her straight to the vet. Yes, it's straightforward but removal of ovaries is quite a big thing so it isn't surprising there are sometimes complications.

In my experience antibiotics are fast-working in cats so hopefully she will soon be on the mend. Flowers
