How soon to take cat to vet?

We rehomed a cat from the RSPCA two weeks ago. We let him out for the first time yesterday. He had a lovely time outside and no problems with him coming back. However, when he came in last night he was retching and being sick. Either small amounts of white foam or small amounts of food. He seems ok in himself. Today, he isn't throwing up but hasn't asked for food. He seems ok in himself and is still up for affection. I suspect he may have eaten some grass and irritated his stomach so wonder if it is a little soon to rush him to the vet? What would you do?

I had a similar thing with my little angel last year - took him the vet as he was dehydrated & popped him on a drip for 24 hours. Turns out the little guy had eaten some mushrooms in the garden so may be worth taking him for a quick check over

Did you watch him all the time outside? Surely you could see what he was eating. What did the RSPCA advise for his first outing? I would take him to the vet.

@alldaisypond It was impossible to see if he was eating anything as he ran into the undergrowth.

@CrumpleHornedSnowcack We do have shaggy ink cap mushroom in our garden, at the moment so mushrooms would be a possibility. They are not toxic to people, but i don't know about for cats. I will get him looked at down at the vets I think.

Thank you for advice.
