Blood in poo

There was a small bit of loose poo on the kitchen floor this morning that appeared to have blood in it. Checked the litter tray
And no loose poo or blood. Both girls seem to be their normal selves. I'm presuming it's Cheddar rather than Magic as she can occasionally get a bit loose.
Do I need to worry?

I got 2 kittens in July, the male had loose stools for a few days with a tiny bit of blood at the end. I worm treated him, changed his food and gave a probiotic paste. One of these things worked and I have never seen any in his stool since. I was worried and googling all sorts though as I am sure you have been too ! Hope your cat is OK and it's just a one off x

Hope so. I'm away for the night so hope they are both ok. The odd thing was that there was no diarrhoea in the tray.

Blood can be from straining. Could one of them be a bit constipated?

Toddlerteaplease · 16/10/2021 21:16

Don't think they are. The tray looked normal.

I think constipation. Through not eating enough or not drinking enough. Or a change in diet.

I previously found that too many dreamies gave mine the runs so when she hadn’t been eating for a couple of days when unwell and had blood on her stool, I gave her a few extra dreamies and that softened her stool up.

She wasn’t complaining about the dreamies or the sore bum. If she’d sussed out the reason behind the extra dreamies she’s have been trying it again…..

I don’t know if too many dreamies have that affect on any other cats?

AnnaMagnani · 16/10/2021 21:29

Silkycat used to get this from constipation. Was sorted out with change of diet.

icedcoffees · 16/10/2021 21:30

Poo can look normal even if it was difficult to get out, though.

I don't give Cheddar dreemies as they make her sick. However she was at the cattery for 4 days and they get very spoilt. So she may well have had some. I send them with meaty sticks.

Perhaps even the change in diet (they may have given her the wrong food or treats by mistake or she may not have eaten anything as stressed?) plus the change in water may have caused it then?

Or if cats can get IBS with stress it could be that?

Either way it sounds like the cattery has been the reason. Perhaps a different one is required? In the meantime could you feed wet food as it contains more moisture and hopefully will result in softer stools?

My girl cat has colitis and sometimes gets blood in her poo when that flares up. It’s usually very loose then too. She sometimes has to have a steroid, depends how bad it is. Probiotic paste helps, she’s permanently on a gastro diet from the vets now which seems to have eliminated the problem.

I don't think the cattery is the issue. They get spoiled and they love it there. I also had the decorator in on Friday which was originally scheduled for November. So she was confined to one room. (With all their litter tray etc) so it could be that.

Seems to have been a one off. Hopefully. Litter tray was normal when I got home.

This was in the tray this morning. So she's hit a vet appointment for tonight. I'm assuming it's cheddar. But better check magic's back side for any sign of diarrhoea. Envynot envy!

Fingers crossed for you all

Hope it’s just piles or something insignificant and easy to fix.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/10/2021 10:57

Yes. She's fine in her self and eating and drinking as normal. She ordered me to put her to bed last night. And is currently snuggled on my shoulder.

Just spoke to the cattery, to check they hadn't fed her dreemies. They haven't. But did wonder see if she'd been eating spiders/ insects. Which she does do.
