Cat gone missing don’t know what to do

Hi,
Our 18 month day hasn’t been home since Sunday morning and this will be 3rd night not home.

Don’t really know why I’m posting but I suppose maybe looking for positive stories and advice. I don’t know what else to do. I’ve stuck posters up, my husband has been putting flyers through doors but we will continue that tomorrow as there are still a few roads left to do.

Have posted on social media, have paid for an alert to go out from microchipping company. Contacted vets. Put litter tray and familiar smells outside. Just feel like she will never be back.

She’s so timid I’m scared she has got spooked and is hiding away somewhere or locked in. I’m worried she will be somewhere without water and won’t be able to get any.

Where else should I put up posters? What time should we be going out calling for her? Someone told me 3am-4am is the best time.

Thanks

Go out after dark with a torch. His eyes will reflect on the light of he's hiding.

OdeToAutumn · 12/10/2021 20:49

@Toddlerteaplease thank you. We will have a walk around tonight with a torch.

Hi if you haven't already, have you put a notice on your local FB page and knocked on neighbours' doors in case she has gone into any sheds? I'm so sorry (I have been here too with my little one) and pray for a safe return .

OdeToAutumn · 12/10/2021 21:28

@Neveratruerfriend I have posted on all the local pages and it has been shared a lot. I’ve knocked on neighbours and then the next door neighbours to them, as well as the houses which back onto our garden. I haven’t actually done the opposite side of the road because I naively thought she will not have been round there front. We have never let her out there, only the back garden.

Tomorrow I will knock on the houses opposite and we will carry on putting flyers.

Thank you, I hope you got your little one back.

Double check she's not in the house somewhere. We spent ages looking for our missing cat only to discover him in the bottom of the wardrobe very unwell and off his food.

She just strolled back in!!
Nearly 3 days days later… very hungry but no worse for wear (so far as we can see!)

So very pleased for you.. and her!!

OdeToAutumn · 13/10/2021 00:20

@Ibizafun thank you. I’m such a pessimist I was cl convinced we would never see her again.

The little rascalSmile Glad she's back with you. Now grounded, I imagineGrin

ilovesooty · 13/10/2021 00:28

Great news!

Neveratruerfriend · 13/10/2021 08:34

Phew, that's fabulous news! Just so that you know, the first time our little boy did this we were in exactly your shoes (though he turned up 24 hours later, at 1am, meowing outside our front door).

But now he's done it the once, it's as if he's got that out of the way and now we know he can be a bit unpredictable (as a kitten he seemed to have a very definite routine and would always be back at feeding times).

I'm new to being a cat owner, but more experienced people have told similar tales.

Coronawireless · 13/10/2021 08:39

Ours very occasionally (once a year) does that. Worrying but it seems to be a thing. Once he got shut into a drawer for 36 hours but seemed fine when he got out. Didn’t go to the loo in the drawer ?! Another time he got locked into a neighbour’s shed.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/10/2021 11:51

Phew. That's a relief.

helpfulperson · 13/10/2021 11:55

Sounds like he's probably been stuck somewhere. Being a pet owner is stressful Smile

FatCatThinCat · 13/10/2021 11:59

This is what they do, they stay away until their humans reach maximum stress level and then stroll back in as if they've only been gone 5 minutes.

OdeToAutumn · 13/10/2021 12:11

Thank you everyone! She’s very clingy today but has had lots of attention. My husband is convinced she was trapped in a shed.

I didn’t want to let her out again but she has been out for a little walk in the garden and is now snoozing.
