When your cat gets a telling off

do they suddenly start madly cleaning themselves?

If mine get in trouble, usually for jumping onto the worktops, they immediately jump onto the floor and start grooming and look at us as if to say "Who, me? I wasn't on the worktop, I've been sitting here grooming the whole time and you've disturbed me by shouting."

They both do it, nearly all the time. It makes me laugh. My old cat used to do it too, I'd forgotten.

I have yet to manage to make my cats realise they are getting a telling off. They just carry on as though I don't exist.

Departed boy would stalk off with a “fuck you” flick of the tail.

New girl doesn’t do anything naughty.

Your cats are gaslighting you OP Shock

Kloppy gently slaps me when I tell him off Hmm Woody just starts purring loudly so I can't stay mad at him for long Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 12/10/2021 20:51

Magic has only recently started being naughty. She just Ignores me.

minipie · 12/10/2021 20:56

Mine starts washing herself whenever she’s been wanting something from us (door opened instead of using her cat flap, extra treat) and hasn’t got it. Or if she’s been stalking a fly and hasn’t caught it.

In a very “huh yeah wasn’t bothered anyway” way.

icedcoffees · 12/10/2021 20:56

Layla and Toby both zoom off and then start attacking the carpet Hmm

Purrlock doesn't give a shiny shit and just walks off Grin

Izzy24 · 12/10/2021 20:58

No cat who has ever owned me would come close to the concept of being told off 🤷‍♀️

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 12/10/2021 20:58

Mine just runs off Grin

Caught ours with his face buried in a still cooking pan of sautéing onions, for god’s sake. Had to chuck them away as he had actually eaten a hard to estimate quantity.

Chased the little bugger out of the kitchen and 5 minutes later he was back looking for something else to scavenge, so clearly telling off had no effect whatsoever.

Want2beme · 12/10/2021 21:00

Mine just pretend they're doing something more important and haven't got time for my nonsense Confused

crimsonlake · 12/10/2021 21:01

Mine just don't respect me full stop :)

Spongeboob · 12/10/2021 21:05

My older one refuses to meet my eye because he knows exactly what he's done. He gets in a foul mood afterwards and storms around in a nark.

Izzy24 · 12/10/2021 21:16

@Spongeboob

Sounds quite like my DH ….😊
