Pet Plans

Can I have a bit of advice please? Back in the UK after many years away and not sure how things work.
I have an approx 3 year old outdoor cat in v good health never had any health problems. My new cat sitter wants me to register with a particular vet (because they provide 24/7 service & she knows them etc). This vet won’t take new clients unless they sign up for their Petplan. Petplan includes unlimited routine consultations, routine vaxs, flea and worm control. It’s £21 per month.

Is that normal/good value? It feels like a lot of money to me when I just used to see the vet x 1 a year for vaxs and get treatments online.

That seems like a lot of money to me, I pay £12.99 for Harry's plan, although I do have to pay for consultations.

Think mine is about £15 per month for each of my cats. I still pay for consultations though

If you pay the pet plan then you wouldn't need to source treatments online as that comes as part of the plan. If you wanted prescription only products online then the vet would charge for a private prescription before you could buy them

Just a tip....if you decide to get your own flea treatment and pay the vet for a private prescription- so you can find the cheapest source online. Be mindful the prescription is only valid for 6 months. I decided to get 6 months worth and then later on get another 6 months worth.....I couldn't do it and ended up having to pay for another prescription thus cancelling any saving I made.

My cats jab was £36 last month.

This is part of the workforce crisis in veterinary medicine. We are desperately short of vets and nurses as such many practices are having to limit client registrations. One of the methods of deciding who to register is to limit it to those who sign up to the health plan. Why are health plan clients chosen? Because in general health plan clients join it as they say their pets health as a partnership with their vet which is how we all wish to work. If you consider the average consult price is around £45 now and the plan included your vaccines and flea and worm tx. Average vaccine £40 Average annual flea and worm treatment £100 You would only have to have three other trips to the vet to be better off on the plan.

Thanks all for the info. Lonecat that is very interesting about vet shortages. I’ve come from living in one of the most expensive countries in Europe but am finding lots of things here as/more expensive & it’s usually down to a lack of workforce…
