Pooing on lawn

Hello - some advice needed please. We have two rescue cats who have been with us for 7 years. We moved house 6 months ago and all went well; they seemed to resettle pretty comfortably. Initially they were choosing to poo in our flower beds - not ideal, but fine. Then that stopped but we were informed last week by our neighbour that they had been leaving turds all over her lawn instead… and she has now put down some of that stuff that smells of lions. Which has obviously worked as we now find poo on our lawn every day instead. It wouldn’t be so much of an issue if we didn’t have a 2.5 year old who plays in the garden. Any bright ideas on how to get them to go elsewhere? I wouldn’t mind the beds, just not the actual lawn…. My husband wants to put down some of the lion stuff in our garden but I imagine it would really upset them and they would feel they didn’t have any territory of their own. Any thoughts very welcome.

That's part of having cats really. You either need to get into the habit of cleaning up before you let your toddler outside, or use litter trays.

It's far better that they poo on your property than go elsewhere. You could invest in a big outdoor litter tray and fill it with wood chip or something, perhaps.

Thanks @icedcoffees - yes, for sure part of having cats but they’ve never used the actual lawn before so it’s been ok. Outdoor litter tray is a good idea but keeping the toddler out of it might be a struggle…

Keep your grass cut short. That stopped my old cat.

You could set it up in a shed or giant hutch type structure and fit a cat flap.

@Tinpotspectator Thank you, we’ve given it an extra short cut 🤞

@icedcoffees Hadn’t thought of that! Thank you.

Have several cats including rescues, over the last 6 months 2 have taken to pooing on the lawn it's horrible and I don't know how to stop it. I have read it can be territorial. I have 6 litter trays, always fresh and clean but for those 2 it makes no difference.
