House plants - do I need to get rid of them for kitten arrival?

I've just read how many houseplants are toxic to cats. I potentially need to get rid of
2 big monstera plants that are my pride and joy
3 aloes
Pothos
2 sansaveria

Do I really need to get rid of them?
Obviously I don't want to poison my cat but god I love those plants

Are those specifically poisonous to cats?
I wouldn’t get rid - maybe put some somewhere else.
I have one cat who ignores all my plants and another who knows he will get attention if/when he starts to destroy them. So, many times a day, really!
So far he hasn’t actually destroyed anything important.

Personally my dcats have never bothered with my plants. Now if this was the Doghouse....

PlatinumBrunette · 05/10/2021 12:24

Sounds like they’ll only take a taste of monstera once - so not poisonous, just unpleasant. houseplantcentral.com/is-monstera-toxic-to-cats-dogs/

Tbh, mine have never tried to eat anything, but it’s the claws!

Could you shut the plants in a cat-free room until they're old enough not to attempt chewing them?

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/10/2021 13:17

The aloe need to go, fatal to cats.

Can you put them on stands? I stick to parlour palms and calaletheas. I might go crazy and buy a spider plant one day.

My two have tried to eat every plant I've ever had, real or fake, and they also love digging in them and getting all the soil over the floor.

All the plants you mentioned can be toxic to cats so I'd get rid of them all if I'm being honest, or at least put them in a room that the cat won't have access to and test them out with a non toxic plant to see if they're likely to be the type of cat that will try to eat them!

You do need to get rid of some. Lilies are really toxic to cats

MyTwoBengals · 05/10/2021 13:35

I used to love my houseplants and never had a cat who bothered with them until now. One of my Bengals is a terrible chewer and so all the plants have gone. I can’t even have cut flowers.

I probably would - kittens are idiots. I adopted mine at 18 months and they are now 3yo. They still chew bike tyres, climb bookcases, and recently chewed clean through a string of fairy lights. My (non-toxic) palm died a death after they had dug him up one too many times.
