Can you febreeze a cat? (Not serious, but odour removal ideas needed)

We may be getting a cat who is currently being fostered. We visited at the foster carers and she is a smoker, and the house was eye-wateringly smoky.

If we do get this cat she is going to pong of smoke and won’t be allowed out for three weeks or so.

So how do we de-smell the cat? Any ideas?

Bathing a cat =taking life into your own hands.

You could try something like Puppy Fresh spray, spray it onto gloves then stroke the cat?

They are usually very clean, so you might find she cleans herself up very quickly.

You can get cat shampoo that you don't need water for - it like a foam that you just rub onto them and from memory they don't usually mind as it doesn't feel wet

Best thread title today Grin

Damp microfibre cloth, just stroke her all over.

I have to bathe my 19 year old cat tomorrow. She has had a major continence issue and nothing but a good soak will sort it. I have some gentle pet shampoo, a few large towels and the strong hands of ds. Also gin.

Solidarity.

The people I got my kittens from smoked but the smell didn't last long once I'd got them home. I'm assuming they just washed it off themselves.

You can get dry shampoo for cats that works quite well. I personally bath mine from time to time and they are fine with it as used for it from kittens.

Cheddar was a bit pongy when I got her. I used some pet heads dry shampoo on her. It worked quite well. My long haired girl was due a trip to the groomer a couple of weeks later. So I took her along for a bath.

The shampoo was Raspberry lemonade flavour. 🤔

I read it as 'can you FREEZE a cat!'

maofteens · 06/10/2021 11:43

There's always outsourcing this task to a groomer.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/10/2021 11:45

You can get cleaning wipes at Pets at Home. Just stroke him with one regularly.

I had the same problem when bringing my cats home. Eau de ashtray is not pleasant at all Envy

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 06/10/2021 11:46

When I have to bathe the cat I use the shower head and make sure I wear my towelling bath robe (armour) it can be done but it is tricky best to have a pump action cat shampoo so you can use it one handed

We had to bath our first cat as he'd spent the night under a car leaking oil. He was a total mess. So, swaddled tightly in a large towel we took him the bathroom, run some warm water in, rubbed a small amount of Fairy into his back fur then lowered him into the bath and pressed him down so he was spread eagled. We poured some water over him and wiped him down, still spreadeagled in the bath. The noise he made would have got the police running in thinking something was being killed. As soon as the bubbles subsided, we let go. Did you know cats could levitate? Ours could!! In no time flat he was bouncing off the roughcast walls, before slithering into a soggy moggy furry heap at our feet miaowing pitifully. He did allow us to pick him up to dry him, and surprisingly he still trusted us implicitly. But we can still visualise it to this day!

loopylindi · 06/10/2021 11:49

Incideentally this was over 40yrs ago, so don't tell me we shouldn't have used Fairy. We were desparate. He lived a good long healthy life.

jaundicedoutlook · 06/10/2021 13:21

The foam stuff works really well and mine, at least, doesn’t seem to mind it too much. We did once put him in the shower for a full clean and shampoo, and I won’t be doing that again as he was beyond pissed off…

Toddlerteaplease · 06/10/2021 13:37

Magic quite enjoys her baths. ( she doesn't actually need it, but looks ridiculously cute when wet)

Nilaqua is the name of the no water cat shampoo. Works a treat.
