Cat moving out

I have 3 cats and one has been back and forth for a few weeks now few days with us and away for a night or two. We have a cat flap and she comes and goes. My vets called to say a women had her scanned and it is a house just over the back from us on the same state so in cat terms about a two minute stroll. I called the women and she thought she was a stray and sounded very disappointed that she had home so close by.
I’ve said that I will remain the owner but realistically I think the cat has chosen to live in both homes, I guess there’s not much I can do except to ask her to stop feeding her but is this fair on the cat who will vote with her paws.
Has anyone else had a cat that has just chosen to return home or indeed move out[confusedConfused

Yep!
We had two lovely boys from the same litter. One was very much a home boy the other one was very much fu human, I'll go where I want, when I want and when I come back you will fuss over me and feed me and I'll f**k off again and come back in maybe 1-4 months.

The longest stretch was about 6 months. He just turned back up, came straight back in. Stayed for about a month then went again.

We did everything to try and keep him in but he was getting stressed out inside and was very unhappy. We just had to let him do his thing!

Yup that’s what I’m afraid of, having to let her go. My dc are not so keen and want me to ask the woman to stop feeding her to see if she will come back home. I’ll go round tomorrow and have a chat with her, and secretly line my pockets with dreamies to entice her home
