Kitten with fleas over the counter or wait for vet??

We collected a kitten last week and the breeder said she had wormed and de flead him.
Yesterday I discovered maybe 6/7 large fleas stomping around on the cat.
I can't get him in at the vet till Thursday. Do I wait till then to treat him or buy an over the counter flea treatment which I could use tomorrow?
I've managed to get quite a lot off him with the comb but I imagine he must still have a lot of eggs.

Over the counter flea treatments can be fatal to very young kittens. Please see a vet and in the meantime use the comb every day.

Advantage should be OK as a flea treatment but it depends on the age/weight of the kitten. Did the breeder tell you what product they used and when?

Could you ask the vet on the phone what they would advise?

Absolutely no OTC treatment for kittens.

Do you have a nit comb? You can get fleas off with one, but they need a pinch between nails to kill them. Gross, but necessary 😕

The vet advised over the counter stuff but I've read it doesn't always work.
He is 9 weeks old and over 1kg.

I'm worried to give over the counter that dosnt work then the vet can't use the stronger stuff.

Maybe try find out what she was defleaed with. If it's an over the counter one that has not been effective it won't do much good doing the same again, and would probably be better waiting for the vet.

You will want to get something for the house too so kitty doesn't just pick them all back up again (indorex is supposed to be very good)

Advantage is the only OTC one that is supposed to effective (has the same flea killing ingredient as Advocate which is a prescription only product)

I've been hoovering and spraying like mad and poor kitty is confined to one room.

I'd wait for the vet and in the meantime, get a jug of very hot water and a metal flea comb and go over it 1-2 times a day. Dip the comb quickly in the water, make sure it's OK for you to hold (as that means it's not too hot for the kitten), comb kitten - the damp makes the fleas 'stick' to the comb, dip the comb in the water and leave the bastard things in there, repeat.

I would not be giving OTC treatments to a kitten under any circumstances, never mind if they've already had something recently - there's no guarantee the breeder actually did it did it the day you picked him up or three weeks previously, anyhow.

Definitely wait for vet
