Rescues in Warwickshire/West Midlands

Bit of a long shot but does anyone know of any smaller cat rescues in Warwickshire or the West Midlands?

We'd love to offer a home to a cat but I'm not finding many available for rehoming through the main Cats Protection, RSPCA etc.

Many of those which are shown as available for adoption seem to be offered only in pairs, or need to be indoor only, or are very nervous and are stated as not being suitable for family life or need someone with experience to help them adapt.

We would be first time cat owners so were just hoping to find a nice sociable possibly older cat to join our family through a rescue rather than somewhere like pets4homes etc but it's starting to seem impossible!

Thanks for any recommendations/advice.

We would be first time cat owners

Hello MWestie,

Have you looked at Stray Cats West Midland? They're an absolutely fantastic rescue that do amazing work with their kitties.

Hi we have just adopted a 3 year old beauty from Furbabies. First time cat owners with two small children. Fantastic rescue.

MWestie · 13/09/2021 22:16

Thank you both, will definitely check these out.

We really struggled a few years ago ending up adopting from Wood Greens. Was a drive but they had no worries about us being from out if area. They were fabulous and we now have a 3 fur balls (they do have plenty of singles too)

MWestie · 14/09/2021 00:43

Oh great I'll check that out too, thanks.

Naively, I thought that as we'd be happy with an older cat with a more known temperament and personality, rather than more popular kittens, it would be easier to adopt. Apparently not!

Would Stoke On Trent be too far away to travel ? We adopted two adult cats from this cat re-homing organisation in June. They are lovely.

The cats are are lovely. So is Iris Cats In Need, cat rescue and rehoming.

Here's a selection of photos of cats currently available for adoption:

Cats Protection were surly, rude and unhelpful when I contacted them, though it was a few years ago. I ended up getting my two lovelies from a rescue near Hereford, pretty much by accident (visiting a friend)! But I’ve heard good things about Avon.

You can search for all cat rescues, including smaller independent ones, by area here: www.catchat.org/index.php/cat-rescue-centres-uk-ireland

Lots of single, indoor/outdoor, family friendly cats on some of the sites listed :)

Wythall Animal Sanctuary and Cramar Cat Rescue are both Worcs but just over the Warwickshire border. I've never had an animal from either but they do get highly recommended locally when I've seen other people asking so could be worth a look. There's a Blue Cross centre somewhere just off the M5/A38 round that way too but it's years since I did a work experience visit there so can't remember exactly the details, sorry. I assume it's still there!

MWestie · 14/09/2021 09:44

Oh these are all great recommendations, just what I was looking for, thanks for all these 🙂

If the Gloucestershire is not too far- Cotswold Dogs and Cats Home have the most I’ve ever seen on their site, including plenty of adults (Dibbs looks GORGEOUS).

We adopted from them earlier this year a very friendly 4 year old ginger Tom (though an indoor boy with FIV) and he is the centre of our world!

MWestie · 17/09/2021 21:54

Thanks for that @user1471548941 I'll look into that one too, although I'm aware some rescues only rehome within a set radius so we may be too far away.

It's proving surprisingly difficult to find a cat!

Ravens Rescue, think they're Dudley based.

MWestie · 17/09/2021 22:11

Will check that out too, thanks @CoasterCoaster

Sorry the very relevant part I forgot to mention is that they were fine with us being 2 hours away! They were slightly surprised we wanted to drive that far but beyond that just gave advice on how to make him comfortable for the journey… spoiler, he “talked” to me verrrrry loudly for the entire way!

MWestie · 21/09/2021 00:33

Thanks @user1471548941 that's good to know re distance. Your boy sounds lovely!
