I may be feral, but....

I have 2 ferals that I feed. B&W George and Ginger Sid.

So, George has been munching his way through thedry kidney food that my old cat, Minnie, left behind when she crossed the Bridge. £15 for a 1.5kg bag no less. He finished it yesterday.

This morning, I only had Whiskas dried. I put some out, knowing that Ginger Sid will eat it later. So I thought "why not treat George? Give him a tin of the smooshy food*." Scooped it out, put it out. He looked at it. Looked at the Whiskas, then looked at me as if to say

"I may be feral, but I am still a cat and I am not eating that." Then sloped off like an offended leopard.

Cats. Weird people.

*Not the kidney smooshy, but one of my emergency tins of pate in case Amazon did not deliver.

Well what did you expect? He has standards just like the rest of us and you fell short.

I hope you've learned your lesson, OP.

I have one stray who won't go near the Whiskas. Only Purina for himConfused Doesn't take them long to train us.

That's so funny 😹 I love the 'You don't expect me to eat that rubbish do you Hmm' disdainful look.

Our first family cat in the 80s came from a rescue centre; the owner had a deal with the local poultry farm who would donate all the mangled/deformed chickens that couldn't be supplied to shops. Little Samantha spent the first year of her life dining on tasty chicken before we adopted her... she spent 17 years on official hunger strike refusing most forms of cat food and stealing chicken from the worktop Grin

AlfonsoTheMango · 10/09/2021 17:38

I had a feral who would eat only chicken-flavoured Whiskas. No big deal except that this when when I lived in a developing country where I could find only one shop that sold that particular flavour of that particular brand... And if they were out of stock, the cat went on a hunger strike to teach me a lesson.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/09/2021 19:26

Even the IRA didn’t manage 17y of hunger strikes.

Samantha did 17 years, she was the only cat I've ever known with an eating disorder Grin She was the tiniest little cat and the most loving Smile She also HATED going outside. We lived in the countryside, next to fields, mountains and lakes but nope...
Fluffycloudland77 · 10/09/2021 20:00

It was an admirable show of willpower.

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 21/09/2021 17:29

I caved. I bought the posh stuff.

George is happy with that.

Mine (lived as a stray for 5 years in a greenhouse) refused to eat anything at the vet until they hand fed him roast chicken while cuddling him Hmm
I could see him thinking "nice hotel, shame about the needles and being shaved"

I can't imagine being without him Sad just the thought of it upsets me He seems fine, little bit of muscle lost but his weight is the same
Fuckingfuckssake · 22/09/2021 14:24

My ferals refuse the Aldi dry biscuits, one of them has an awful coat so last week I bought him a tin of mackerel in sunflower oil, wolfed it down, almost immediate mprovement in his condition, bought two more tins, will he eat it now?? No. Does anyone in my house eat mackerel? Guess.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 22/09/2021 14:27

He's well-loved and looked after :) By saying he's doing well I meant he looks well :).
