Stud tail

Does anyone have any experience in dealing with stud tail? I'm fairly sure that my boy has it as he seems to have permanent greasy patch at the top of his tail. The skin seems ok, and I don't think that it causes any pain as I brushed it without him flinching or complaining, but it is very greasy and can have a slight smell.

He was neutered late because he had a retained testicle as a kitten. I noticed that he was a bit greasy on his back a while ago, but assumed that it would clear up once he was neutered. It's been a few months now though, and he still has it.

Ive ordered some sebolytic dermatological shampoo and plan to pin him down and try to wash his back and tail when it arrives (which I'm really not looking forward to!) Confused

Just wondered whether anyone else had experienced this and how you dealt with it?

I hadnt ever heard of this so had to google it. My old cat had a greasy spot around there, nothing was ever mentioned about it when she was at the vets (which was fairly regularly) and I just put it down to her being too overweight for her to reach that area. She was also arthritic around there so it was avoided while grooming.
Im assuming he's fairly young and presumably a healthy weight if he's not long neutered?

Yes I had to google it to find out what it was. I've never known a greasy cat before! My last one was so fastidiously clean. From what I understand it's a form cat acne, so I was hoping that he might grow out of it at some point. I think the main problem is that the skin can get infected if not kept clean.

He's only a year old and and a healthy weight. He can be a bit lazy with the grooming but I don't think that's the issue. It appeared when he hit his teenage years and it's concentrated at the top of the tail so I think it's very likely to be stud tail.

I'll try the shampoo and if that doesn't work then I'll ask the vet for advice when he goes in for his next lot of jabs.
