Am I being unreasonable here or is my neighbour?

Sorry for the vague title. Couldn't think how to phrase it.

So im on sick leave. See previous post for more details. We have a little hedgehog who's been visiting and he's the highlight of my night. So we bought some cat food and i put some out every night.

Today I had a knock on the door to a woman yelling that her cat is always round my house and she's sick of it. I'm not a cat person. So wouldn't really know if there was one hanging around. We have a lot of cats in the area. I see probably 10 different ones going thru my garden every day. She pointed to the dish I use for hedgehog and claimed I was trying to entice her cat to me and the cat food.proved it.
I tried explaining. Didnt want to know.
I was under the impression outdoor cats do what they want! I'm not a cat person at all.
I assume there finishing off hedgehog leftovers.
Am I wrong here?

Nope

Keep feeding the hogs. Especially now since the females will be pregnant or have little hoglets tucked away

You could make it cat proof though by sticking a plastic box on top with a hole big enough for the hog but not a cat. Put a brick on top of the box to stop the cat from knocking it over

That's a good idea. Making it cat proof. I dont have any interest in any cats at all. But I suppose if there's food there gonna eat it.
Ill get a plastic box and make it cat proof.

Ask your nighbour to dig up some worms and give them to you for the hogs and you won't need to put cat food down Grin

But i agree with pp cat proofing the food with a box and hog shaped hole is probably the best bet

I team hedgehog, your neighbour needs to sod off. If she wants her cats to stay in her house then she needs to have indoor cats.

How lovely to see a living hedgehog. It's none of your neighbours business who you feed in your garden. Hope the above suggestion solves the issue.

I've been signed off sick with anxiety and depression and honestly he or she is the highlight of my nights. Comes around about 10.
I am in the process of making a cat proof hedgehog feeder. Just a box with a hole cut out. And like pp said I'll stick a brick on top.
I dont want to annoy my neighbours but honestly I couldn't tell you which cat is hers.. there's loads of them. I'm not a cat person so don't really pay attention but I can imagine most won't say no to a bowl of leftovers.

Keep up with feeding the hogs :) you might also want to look to make a bit of a slalom with bricks if the cat is small and determined! We've a local cat who is like a walking waste disposal unit! He's lovely, but the hedgehogs wouldn't get a look in with him about!
