Is my cat pooing?

Our rescue has been with us a couple of months now. He's had some ups and downs and we are still trying to do everything to make him happy (He always looks miserable, fed up and anxious!). He always used to do a poo over night in the litter tray, he was also doing one in the garden during the day. Recently there's been no overnight poo and he's been scared to venture further than the back door so I haven't really seen him poo in his usual spot. He's eating the same and no obvious signs of distress but I'm worried he's not pooing. How would I know if it's a problem? Dh thinks he's pooing outside but there's no way of knowing, his usual spots are clear.

He's still as scared as ever of everything. Spent a fortune on a micro chip cat flap and he'll only use it if we peg it open. This means neighbourhood cats he's terrified of constantly peer in! He won't go together than the back garden unless we walk him so I've been walking him up and down the street which he loves (dc think it's hilarious that I'm walking a cat). Any tips for getting him to use the cat flap independently? I've tried everything from treats to talking to rubbing his scent on it.

Just a quick update. Poo patrol worked because I followed him into a bush today and saw him having a nice long poo! Yay.

Now just got to try and train him to use the sodding flap. He did come through today as he was desperate for his treat stick, it took 20 minutes to cajole him through!

I was just going to say that he's bound to be doing it somewhere, otherwise he'd be showing signs of distress. Glad you found his new looGrin. He's obviously a sensitive soul who tackles things at his own pace. My cat hasn't used a catflap in her 11 years on earth and is afraid of her own shadowShock. Slowly does it with your ladWink

Photo please. You know the rules!!

Yes he's very sensitive and absolutely terrified of everything. Cars and the cat flap, oh and usually his tail, always trigger him. Evenings are the worst, it's horrible to see him so scared and hiding under beds and furniture. I've attached a photo, and posted one on my rescue coming home thread.

If he had a spot he favours I would make sure you keep it in good condition for him, ie remove the poo and keep the soil turned over for him

Obviously in the winter you will need to cut a path in any snow 🤣

I got worried about this when mine started going outside. One stopped using the box immediately while the other continued for a few weeks.
