Sneezing cat

Our cat seems to get really sneezy at the change of seasons - so back in about April, and again this week. (We’re in Scotland and it is definitely autumn now.) No watery eyes, behaviour completely normal, greedy as ever, racing about the garden, and keeping the local mouse population in check. She’s up to date on jabs, and all fine at her last check/boosters in April. She’s seven, and this happens every year, then passes.

I am very reluctant to bring her to the vet because she finds it SO distressing - DP says it’s like seasonal allergies? Does anyone’s cat have similar?

No I haven't come across this, but it doesn't sound worth worrying about and certainly not worth visiting a vet about.

You can see her eyes have a discharge. The vet told me that it's allergies and that the eye drops I'd been using wouldn't make any difference, it's a seasonal thing. I bathe her eyes, when she lets me, and try to keep them as clean as possible. We have lovely white catsSmile

@thecatneuterer the not worth visiting the vet is exactly what I wanted to hear - thank you. She wails all the way there, all the way back, and all the time she is in the surgery, so it is not a happy experience for anyone. She had teeth out a few years ago and when DP went to collect her he could actually hear her from the carpark...

@Want2beme gosh, twins! We do have lovely white cats. We have no discharge here, from eyes or nose, just the sneezing (and I mean she is sneezing a few times a day, not like hours on end). She always seems slightly surprised when it happens which is funny to watch. It seems to happen most when she goes outside, and when she comes in from being out. Maybe it's something in the utility room - between the kitchen and back door - actually, but there is nothing new in there.

My chap sneezes as a direct result of shoving his head in undergrowth - but yes, it's as the seasons change 🤷🏼‍♀️

Recently had his jabs and full health check and has confirmed to be in excellent health!

I wouldn't worry Judy.
