Just that really.
The Senior Gentlecat is booked in for next Wednesday, but he has been asleep on my lap for an hour.

His ears and his paws are cold, and his breathing is shallow.
I'd be glad in a way because he has always hated and been distressed by the vets, but this seems such a bloody long drawn out way, even if it is so peaceful....

Bless him. My 13yo boy died in my arms a fortnight ago. I had called the emergency vet and was about to take him in when I realised he was already just about gone, so I just sat with him and stroked him and talked to him till he went. I'm glad he was at home. It is drawn out: he had been declining and every morning I thought I might wake up and he has already gone. But the end was still peaceful and not traumatic for him (I found it hard to deal with after I have to admit).

I hope he passes peacefully. He'll be so glad to know you are there and that he's in his favourite place. No better way to go for a cat.

I’m sorry your losing him Flowers. It’s so hard to say goodbye to them.

MrsRussell · 27/08/2021 18:20

He's just woken up, used the litter tray, and wants to go out.
He's so slow and wobbly, the poor old boy. He isn't going to come back, is he?

I’d keep him in.

Aww how sad. They become such parts of the family don't they. 😢

Peachyqueen · 27/08/2021 22:14

Hope you're okay @MrsRussell. I'm dreading the day this happens with my 2 fur babies. Sending you hugs.

The old sod has just drunk a quarter of a pint of milk from a glass (because honestly, there didn't seem any reason not to) and is now washing himself.

I'm hoping he doesn't see out the night, to be honest, but the way he's going at the moment he'll probably outlive all of us. Look like the Zombie Apocalypse, but still keep tottering on.
(Am very sure he won't, by the way, but it's being so cheerful keeps me going.)

Thanks hugs OP I'm on my fourth moggie now after seeing out my previous three all at the ages of 17 or 18. It's always so sad but a relief to see them no longer struggling. Thinking of you and your handsome boy.

BarefootHippieChick · 27/08/2021 22:41

Hugs to you. One of my moggies went quite suddenly very recently, luckily we were with her at the end in the emergency vets. We miss her lazing around waiting for tummy tickles. Your old boy sounds much loved. I hope when the end comes it's peaceful for you both.

Well, he saw the night out.
Can't make it up the stairs any more, so his litter tray is in the living room (we're just not going to have anybody round for the next couple of weeks, it's fine) and he used it just dandy.
Had his breakfast, smacked his brother on the nose for wanting some of it - special expensive hypoallergenic geriatric old bugger food, so obviously everybody wants some - and went out into the garden about an hour ago.
I haven't seen him since, but an hour and a half in the sun undisturbed isn't much to give him, is it?

It sounds like he's enjoying his last few days. Do you have any bushes or hidden corners in your garden? Just keep your eye around there if he doesn't come back in a little while. He may just be enjoying the warmth and sunshine
