Night settling?

Our little one arrived Monday, she turned 13 weeks Wednesday and is an absolute dream! The only thing I am unsure of is 'bedtime'?

I generally close her into her room at 11ish where she remains all night without a peep, but she is snoozy all evening off and on and I wake her at 9 ish for a good busy play and some food/water.
She is cuddly, playful, sleeping well, we don't hear a peep until 6/7am. Eating ok. Drinking. Brilliant with her litter tray...... so glad we waited to bring her home from mum over 12 weeks!

Things are going SO well and I am still doubting myself. Am I doing it right? 😅

Yes it sounds like you are doing it right.😀.

I do the bedtime music when I was closing kittens in for the night, so around 9pm each evening, it was playtime for 10/15 minutes, then food, fresh water, cuddles and as soon as Alexa started playing the radio they knew it was time to settle down and Alexa went off again in the morning when my two sleepy kittens would get out of bed.

You haven't posted the obligatory photo. No one can advise unless we can see the cuteness.

Oh God, no. I can’t wait to sleep with a cat again. Blush

SquirryTheSquirrel · 21/08/2021 00:36

Sounds fine to me for a kitten. You might find, over time, that she doesn't want to sleep all night in which case it would be better not to shut her in (unless you don't mind your carpet being clawed to pieces) but it's usually a good idea to start off with a kitten in one room and let the kitten set the pace for expanding their territory.

I give the cats the run of 2 rooms at night. Just in case anyone thinks I am cruel. I need my sleep and so they don't get the run of the bedroom at night.

NotMyCat · 21/08/2021 01:05

Mine is shut in the kitchen/living room (open plan) overnight
Only because he's VERY vocal and is likely to wander into my room at 3am and start howling at himself in the mirror Hmm

Thank you all, she is currently in the garage extension, which isa sort of den/playroom that comes directly off the lounge..... our house is pretty open plan so she has that room for her safety and security. In the day she runs through the lounge and we stay there with her. Our household is pretty busy and I am home a lot so she is massively stimulated in the daytime. Thankfully she is really playful and zoomie and has been since she arrived on Monday. Absolutely good as gold too. Her room now has to have the blind fully up after she did some climbing through getting stuck hanging neither here nor there circus act and she loves sitting up on the shelves watching out the windows. But it also means that I am able to go outside at any point and peek in (to satisfy my own worries about not being able to see her 😳) and she us always settled every time I have looked!

The eventual aim is full run of the house, but right now with upstairs windows open and daily long shifts meaning DH us only home between 11pm and 7am I am glad she seems happy with the current set up as I know she cannot get lost or hurt. We would hear her cry and I could sleep on the den sofa if needed (or one of my teens) but she doesn't cry at all. Whereas if we were to shut the door and sit in the lounge talking she would cry for sure! (We don't do that!)
I realise things will evolve and change as she grows and I am good with that, definitely.

Sorry, that was a ridiculous ramble!

Oh. Photos 🙈

Last night she was in her carrier by 10.45 she was desperate for bed, didn't hear a peep until 7.30, though I listened in at her door too often through the night!

@LittleTabby I have a pair who are just like her so I have a definite bias, but I don't care, they are all beautiful.

Beautiful! How old?

She is being a madam today 😅 dashing behind the sofa, not because she is scared, but because she is insane and knows it is a military operation to try and help her back out 😜

16 months, @LittleTabby. But both very daft. One of them went into the back of the couch the day I took them home, less than 30 minutes in. I sat and cried as I was afraid to move the couch in case of crushing, the back of the couch for sealed off as soon as I got them out.

Bless them! Oh I so get that feeling, I said to my daughter not to move the sofa just in case we squish her!

They certainly grab your hearts don't they!

Loving it ❤
