Anyone changed from Felix AGAIL recently?

Just wondering if anyone has changed their cat's Felix AGAIL recently? I read about a possible scare of cats becoming ill/dying after changes made to the food. If so, what did you change it to that you'll cat will actually eat?

My two look absolutely fine, but one has been a bit hit and miss over the last week as to whether he'll eat Felix - he'll happily eat his dry which is something. My other boy has suddenly refused to eat it (he's a skinny little thing so I don't want him losing weight), unfortunately, he doesn't like dry - I've tried 3 others foods, one he won't touch, the other he's licked the gravy a bit, the other he sometimes eats anyway but not very much!

Felix agail at the moment. Was whiskas sensations previously. Mine will only eat one type of food at a time. She then goes off it once I've bought a case so we have various types of food in the garage. They get eaten eventually when she decides that is her favourite. I have some of the mousse in square packs for when I haven't a clue!

Meant to say, get some tinned pilchards in. Cheap and never met a cat that wouldn't eat them.

My toothless old boy had also gone off his AGAIL when they changed the recipe. Luckily he had not become ill from eating it but I was worried when he went from 4 pouches a day to just nibbling it.

I've tried loads of different foods:
Webbox naturals was a big hit.
Whiskas was tolerated and half eaten.
Harringtons was tolerated and half eaten.
Sheba trays (he ate these as well as the AGAIL). He likes certain flavours, hates others and if it is given too often he gets bored of it.
Gourmet Perl: I have a huge pack in the hall but not tried it yet. He will probably hate it to spite me.
Sheba fine flakes in jelly was tolerated, the jelly licked off and the chunks half eaten.

As you can see he is a fussy little git, Felix originals and AGAIL were foods he would consistently eat.

A tip is that at the moment if you set up a subscription on Amazon you get 30% off. Once you have received your first order you can cancel. I got the massive box of Gourmet Perl for £20 instead of £30 this way.

Webbox is £3.50 instead of £4 in Morrisons right now so I'm going to go and stock up today.

No reason to change here. Mine are all happily continuing to eat Felix. If when they get bored if it I'll look for something different.

I've tried a few different wet foods, and so far (touch wood!) my cat seems to like all of the flavours of the ones I've tried: Blink, Thrive and Hi-life. Given she's eaten every flavour I don't think she's fussy, but she wouldn't eat any of the flavours from the new box of AGAIL.

There is a Facebook group about this Cats Recently Affected by Felix Food

Mine have gone off AGAIL recently. We've switched to Whiskas, they can't have dry food so will keep trying different pouches if/when they go off that.

icedcoffees · 18/08/2021 20:04

We feed Felix but the Sensations meaty type not AGAIL.

One of mine is allergic to tuna so we have to feed meat flavoured food as they all swap about with each other lol.

They get salmon flavoured biscuits though 😊

Having to suddenly find an alternative they will eat is a nightmare isn't it.

For our girl, I think it was the smoother texture she liked in AGAIL, so we've been trying things without larger chunks.

Rejects so far have been Sheba Fine Flakes, Sheba pate stuff and Lily's pate/mousse trays. Blink was also refused. I didn't try Whiskas casserole or delight as our old boy used to eat those and she was never interested.

She is now eating Applaws and will have a bit of Hi-Life. These are more expensive though so I only buy a couple of pouches of each flavour at a time while we work out which madam will eat (although if you want to try Blink they are doing a trial offer, just £1 through their website at the moment).

She has biscuits down for grazing and she eats a baked whitefish most evenings so she's not reliant on pouch food but she wouldn't eat dry only. Royal Canin do biscuits called Exigent for fussy cats - I alternate with 'aroma' and 'savour' varieties (also second stage kitten biscuits recently for extra calories while we're doing the 'pouch trial' palaver) You can buy smaller trial packs of those if you wanted to see if they'd tempt your boy. The whitefish is frozen from supermarkets (usually Iceland, three packs for £10) but fish alone doesn't provide all the vitamins they need.

Although its been stressful all round trying to find an alternative meat she'll eat I have noticed she's perked up again since ditching the AGAIL so that's something at least.

Good luck!

Just be careful as frozen fish can have a high salt content.
TheWeeDonkeyFella · 19/08/2021 19:54

Thanks @Plump82, the vet's ok with what she's eating at the moment (although not ideal and if we can find something else she will eat again we'll reduce the fish) but worth flagging up, especially as some suppliers add a salt glaze to frozen fish.

kitkat463 · 19/08/2021 20:13

My girl stopped eating felux too when they changed the recipe. I switched to purina perle in same flavours as the Felix she liked, and its been a huge hit! Is a bit more pricey but I amnt throwing half in the bin like I was with Felix.

Found something in tesco this week- black box, something bistro? The girls seem to like it. Will eat Aldi premium wet food, wilko premium wet and whatever the tesco stuff is (think it used to be two names? Been rebranded). Won’t eat Lidl food or Sainsbury’s. Morrison’s do some decent grain free food but I don’t have one locally.
