Any tips for making car travel easier?

My mog hates car trips and I have to take him on one today.

Any tips for making it less stressful for him? Our cat carrier is a standard rigid one.

I guess this may be a bit late now but for next time , get him happy with going in his carrier if it is the type you can take the top and door off do this and make the bottom bit into a bed for him . this can be his permanent bed . Then once he is happy sleeping in that put the lid back on and let him sleep in that .
A week or 2 before he has to go anywhere get him use to the carrier been moved around with him in it just walk slowly around the house to start with , then when he is happy with that put him in the car with the engine running ( have the engine running before you put it in so the noise doesn't startle him . ) drive round the block until he gets use to it .
Take all of the above slowly , my cat was terrified of his box when I got him at about 6 months old but with time ( about 4 months) and trust he now sleeps in his box in my bed room and if I want him to get in it I just pick it up and he hops in of his own free will .

oh and also dont feed him for a few hours before he has to travel or he may be sick and associate carrier = sick = hate

Most cats only go in the car for the vet or the cattery so they get a bad association.

Bit late for today, but next time take him on a short trip in the car then return home a few times.

If you think he gets motion sickness, put him on front passenger seat (with old towels around!) not in the back/boot. Make sure the carrier is secured firmly with seatbelt. Put a rug underneath it to raise it/make it level. Turn air fans on high so there is constant fresh air. Talk/sing reassuringingly continuously. Drive as smoothly/slowly as possible.
