Hyperthyroidism?

Taking my 15 year old moggy to the vet on Thursday and dreading it!
He is peeing EVERYWHERE, crying for food continuously, even when there is still some in the bowl. Staring vacant into space and is losing weight very quickly.
I know there will be blood tests etc., but I am dreading a diagnosis of hyperthyroidism. Any medication will be exceptionally challenging shall we say. I do feel his age precluded surgery.

I don't know why I am posting really. Just worried about the cost, the actual administering any mess, the whole thing.

Well, don't know what to think.

Went to vet (new one, we moved house).
Told him my concerns and mentioned that I was concerned I had been ignoring signs of hyperthyroidism. He raised his eyebrows and did the ' here is another Dr Google hysterics kind of smirk, felt the side of cats throat and said no, it was not that.
Listened to his heart. Its fine.
Told me to buy good quality cat food, give him cod liver oil, charged me £41 consultation fee and said goodbye.

Fecking cat virtually drooled all over him, laid down on the scales and purred as he was being examined.

I just don't know what to think.

He will not eat dry food ( which he has always preferred)
He cried for food continuously.
He is peeing everywhere.
He has lost weight.
He keeps getting a clumpy coat, his hair is matting all the time.( and yes, of course I groom him, but a couple of days with no comb and you can see it coming back). He is short haired and would usually get a Sunday afternoon brush.
He is sleeping much more, he is 'needy'.

Anyway, apparently good food, cod liver oil and a proper cat comb is all he needs.

Just wanted to pop back and say that I took cat to different vet last Monday.
He has beendiagnosed with hyperthyroidism and a are starting tomorrow with oral drugs. Happy to refer for radio treatment if necessary. Vet told me it was hyperthyroidism before bloods came back and was gobsmacked mildly surprised at original diagnosis.
I'm a bit pissed off tbh.

I'm glad you have a diagnosis. Our previous cat lived to age 20 with daily Vidalta pills from about age 14.

We have 2 girls now, 15 years old, both hyperthyroid. One has Vidalta as she is easy to pill, one didn't get good control with Vidalta so we are on twice daily liquid meds - Thyronorm, very easy to administer and to titrate the dose to what is needed.
