Why did my cat give me love?

One of my 1 year old cats hates me. She loves my daughter but hates me. It started when I gave her flea drops for the first time. From then on I only get a stroke if she wants food, or when she's out the front I can give her lots of love. The rest of the time she runs from me like I'm going to hurt her.

Yesterday she came and found me. Climbed onto my lap. Sat down and started purring.

Why? Why did she do that?

Was it because I had put some Tuna on her dinner? (I've only ever given them tuna maybe twice before)
Was it because I was cuddling the neighbours new kitten? (6 weeks old apparently!!! Should still be with mum at that age!)
Was it just because....and then she will hate me again when I take her to the cattery on Monday!

Why did my cat give me love?

She appears to be a tortie so I’m just going say I suspect it’s typical tortie contrariness Grin

I go for option C

They are cats. Keeping you on your toes and being mysterious is all part of it Grin

Contrary is a good word for her. She is pretending when we see neighbours that she's the most loving cat....rolling around for belly rubs etc....then behind closed doors just ignores me!

Yep, what @Hippopotas said, she's a Tortie and they are a special kind of contrary, even by cat standards...Tortietude is 100% a real thing 😂

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/08/2021 08:43

There is no unusual Tortie behaviour.

Mumdiva99 · 01/08/2021 11:22

I'm new to cat owning. Are torties particularly challenging? Or just bloody minded?

If they were human they’d be blonde landladies who’ve had 4 husbands, with beehives & leopard print knitwear but it’s all part of the charm.

Best description of a tortie ever 😂😂

She's planning something.

Our tortie loves DH, and DD. She ignores 3 x DS - they do not exist. Me - she detests. She will order me to feed her and then act like I'm trying to poison her. She follows DD and DH around like they are gods to her. She will lick DH's beard like it's her long lost kitten. If I touch her, she will run off as if I've punched her and then desperately lick the bit I touched to decontaminate herself. If I walk past her, she throws herself to the ground like I've just kicked her. Honestly it's wearing. DD bathed her the other day and all I did was walk in at the very end to bring a towel and got spat at like it was something to do with me! If she ever comes near me I would be seriously concerned.

Torties are known to have very particular temperaments.

Enjoy the affection while it lasts, OP.

My mums neighbour has a tortie when I visited the other day she head butted my hand twice then immediately bit me. Bear in mind I didn’t go to touch her it was all her touching me Hmm

We used to have a tortie when I was growing up and she was such fun and so contrary and grumpy but also occasionally very loving and sometimes I snarling devil who had to be covered in a towel to move her to protect us from hissing spitting and claws. I miss her so much. She mellowed in her old age and whilst you had to beware of the claws still she had no teeth so when she went to bite you she just gummed your to death.

toughdaay · 01/08/2021 14:39

Yep, typical tortie (we are the owners slaves of one here too). Enjoy the cuddles while she's allowing them!

Melstarrynight · 01/08/2021 14:41

My mum used to foster for cats protection. She's had a lot of torties and refers to them as 'naughty Torties'.

ufucoffee · 01/08/2021 14:48

She's a cat. That's normal behaviour.

Thanks all....I'm learning from you.
