We think we’re ready for new Beast

Some of you may recall our beloved BastardCat died in March. It was very sudden and completely unexpected - he literally keeled over at MrCat’s feet; a second before he was purring for his breakfast - he was only just 8.

We’ve registered with rehoming charities and been approved. We’ve now informed them we’re open to adoption but they’ve advised us that they, unusually, have a very low kitten intake. To be honest, that’s marvellous! It proves people are being more responsible in neutering / spaying their pets and that Feral Colonies are being managed.

However, we still want a Beast. BastardCats mum was a Feral who gave birth in our neighbour’s garden before being persuaded of the error of her ways and allowing herself to be adopted and spayed. Neighbour emotionally blackmailed us into taking one of the Kittens in. This time, MrCat wants to meet kitten(s) before to see how we get on. MrCat and BastardCat were joined at the hip - I keep telling DH we can’t replace BC but he still wants only one kitten and the opportunity to choose.

Any ideas? I’m not going to offer money for Kittens on any weird sites but would be willing to donate to rehoming charity - if kosher.

2 kittens? - has MrCat ever lived with 2 kittens together? Doesn't know what he's missing.

Have you been following the thread with the seven newborn part Bengal kittens? That would be my first port of call!

MrsCatE · 31/07/2021 19:19

@felinelucky nooo!! What have I missed?! Link please?! I Lurvve vocal Bengal Beasts!

Yes, I know @ragged. MrCat will not consider two. I’ve had bonded boy siblings who cuddled, groomed and entertained each other.

Newborn kittens arrived today! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/thelitterr_tray/4300287-Newborn-kittens-arrived-today

MrCat could possibly be blackmailed, hoodwinked, bribed or simply chastised until he sees the many errors of his ways?

nordica · 01/08/2021 10:20

Why does it need to be a kitten? Rescues have lots of single young adult cats waiting months and months to find a home, especially if they are black or b&w. It's much easier to know what you get with an adult cat too, a kitten's personality is still developing.

MrsCatE · 01/08/2021 12:38

Thank you @felinelucky. I know @nordica but MrCat is adamant. I’m open to adult cats and convinced a bonded pair (kittens or adults) would be better however, he has a valid point in that he will be doing the vast majority of care. I have various orthopaedic issues and when I do work, it’s away from home. He WFH and has done since before the pandemic.

Ps BastardCat was a magnificent, massive Panther; I’ve always had black cats since my first childhood cat who was the sweetest, loving girl.

I remember you losing Bastardcat. We’ve had kittens and adults, 3 of each and I think you have a different bond with them when you’ve raised them from Kittens.

If he wants a kitten that’s his choice.

My DH also insisted on a kitten. I did persuade him to look at the local rescues briefly but they only had one litter of kittens being rehomed in pairs. All of the older cats either wanted to live alone or had pre-existing conditions i was worried about insuring. I have to say there were very few rescue cats available in our area too which was nice.
