About to adopt a stray - fleas?

Long story but there's a local stray ive decided to adopt. It's a case of catching him first. As soon as he's caught he's going to the vet, but may not get an appointment for a day or so.

In the meantime he will be in my house, presumably with fleas. The vet won't give prescription flea treatment without seeing him first and I would like him treated for fleas straightaway. My plan is to buy flea treatment over the counter somewhere so that I can treat him ASAP ...

Question is, what is the most effective over the counter flea treatment I can buy? There are lots of different ones. I would prefer prescription one straightaway but clearly that's not possible! Any recommendations please ?? Thank you!

Oops, that’s not the cat in question.

Note to self. Read properly 🥴

And on the subject of fleas - I can’t get rid of the buggers at the moment, despite DCat using vet prescribed flea treatment and using up 2 cans of indorex. Is anyone else having problems with super-fleas?

@TomorrowIsAnotherDae he is certainly a stray - there's a story there. Long story short, we took him in when he appeared and took him to the vet - not chipped. No one claimed him etc etc. Vet advised leaving it a little while before getting him neutered in case anyone came forward and claimed him. Next thing we knew, he ran away.

Fast forward 18 months and I find him on Facebook, terrorising local cats and known as the local stray bully. I've now claimed him and plans are in place to trap him. Will neuter him as soon as I get my paws on him but....

....so far no luck. Sad
Please everyone think positive thoughts that he will come back to me! (DH says "they'll never take him alive!" Grin

Good luck OP - I'm sending out positive vibes that he will come 'home'.

Not sure if this would work, but when DCat escaped from my first floor window after we moved he was missing for over a week. I put my night-shirt and pillowcase outside the front door (and also went to church for the first time in years and lit a candle for his safe return) He found his way home that night! Could there be anything with a scent that might be familiar to him that you could leave outside?

In the meantime I'll light a candle...

Hope you get him OP.

Get Indorex spray from Amazon and spray the entire house , that way you won't be over run with little visitors.

NigellasGuest · 02/08/2021 11:45

Thank you both!

I'm afraid putting out scented things won't work because

  1. he was barely with us a month so doubt it felt much like home and

importantly 2) we have since moved house!

We are still in the local area hence me spotting him on our local FB pages. Good idea about the spray to deter the locals (does it also work for annoying humans Wink)?
I've got feliway plug in poised and ready.
Just playing a waiting game, having to trust to fate I guess. He seems to like running wild it seems. He's breaking into houses and pinching food but no one can catch him. I'm sure he would be happier in my home Sad

@TomorrowIsAnotherDae thank you for the candle when you do it. Those things do help I really believe.
