Our cats know The Rules -catdoor unlocked at 6.30 .
They have a Routine . Breakfast/Dreamies/Dinner

But they've decided to ignore DH calling and shaking the biscuit tin to bring them indoors .
I'm 100% sure ( as I;m tucked up in bed at 11.15pm and DH who WFH is trying to call them in) that they're outside , laughing into their beards .

Well yes , quite . We know you're calling , we know we should be in. But we're Adult Cats and can work a cat door thanks. Not peckish at the moment , full of butterflies and moths

They've got months of hot summer evenings ahead to be tardy little ratbags

At least one of ours is a dirty stop out every night at the moment. They flop around all day in the house behaving like divas and only wake up when it cools down later on.
When they do stay out, they are always at the front door demanding entry at 7ish in the morning.

Mine comes in for breakfast and a cuddle and then goes goes out again until about 9 pm when he comes in for dinner. Then he’s off out again until the next morning. If we are outside durning the the day or evening he often comes and joins us. He does pop in and out during the night.

He’s definitely an outside cat. I’ve got him booked in the cattery for three weeks. He’s not going to be happy at all. Sad

This is the report from our smart cat flap for one of ours. The orange is when he’s out. Little sod.

Love the smart catflap Grin

Ours is in the 'Can come in but not go out' position because Madam is still out . MaleCat is in and probably eaten all the pies now .
DH has gone to bed (he's working tomorrow ) I'm on CatDuty because I'm not .

Earlier on, she sat in a black patio chair and closed her eyes to be invisible Hmm .
Should be glad that they're happy and confident but I want to go to bed now moggy !

I shook the Dreamies box, she sauntered in and miaowed (ahhhh)

Rewarding her tardy behaviour my DS would say !

We've made a bed up in the garage for our 1 year old. His routine:

8:30 breakfast and a cuddle
8:35 out
19:00 dinner
19:05 out
21:30 come in and pretend I'm staying so get a snack
21:35 out
01:00 in (if someone is up to let him in - no catflap)
04:00 out (after much meowing and jumping on the bed)
08:25 in
[REPEAT]

More often than not when the weather is hot he spends all day in the fields and will voluntarily sleep in the garage rather than come in overnight!

Ahh, rotten beasts. But they are wonderful, aren't they?

idril · 23/07/2021 10:56

Yep, my normally hardly-leaves-the-house cat has been out almost 24/7 this week. Mostly sleeping under a bush. Currently sat on my lap now the temp has dropped 10 degrees!

MidnightMeltdown · 23/07/2021 11:10

I don't wait up for mine to come in! I just put their food down, set the cat flap so that they can't go back out once they come in, and go to bed. They're always in when I when I get up in the morning. I also close the door to the lounge to stop them getting upstairs and waking me up at some ungodly hour!

I actually think that they're safer out at night than during the day as there are fewer people and cars about.

I have my bedroom window open most of the year so the cat has access to outside.

But since it has been hot I have the air con on and the door shut.

So at 3 am I am woken by 2 front paws grinding into my shoulder and a loud, "waaaa" into my ear until I let her out.

The little sod can actually open the bedroom door but apparently that is not good enough.

lubeybooby · 23/07/2021 11:37

I have 2 cats, one loves outdoors and absolutely has be out patrolling as much as possible and one isn't too bothered. But even the 'not too bothered' one didn't appear til 3am, little sod.

Usually try and get both in by 10pm then lock up. No chance last night! It was still 22c outside at 2am and they loved it
