Cats and big kitchen remodel

I have 2 darling cats. In a couple of weeks we are having some work done in the house. Walls down, new walls built. Dining window changed into French doors and an existing door bricked up and made into a window.

Big changes to the existing kitchen.

This will affect the cats - lots. One small example is their cat flap is going to move! Plus it'll be noisy and dirty. My poor moggies.

How can I make it easier for them? I don't want to stress them out.

When my neighbours did this their cat took up residence in my greenhouse for a few weeks (I think he went home at night but snoozed there all day). So you might want to alert your neighbours to be particularly vigilant about checking sheds. Could you set up food and water for them in a shed or similar so that they can feed away from the disruption.

We kept ours inside and closed in upstairs whilst doing a ground floor extension. They hated being locked in, but adapted. And ultimately it was safer that way and less stressful than hiding from noisy builders and machinery in the garden. Lots of love and attention and they put up with it for 6 months! They also took no time to get used to their new cat flap once the work was finished.

I'm
Having my kitchen done in a couple of months. My girls are going to the cattery. It's just going to be easier to have them
Out of the way.

I think I’d use a cattery, there’s some really nice ones.

The one my niece used for her two was £25 a night. It’s nicer than my first flat.
