Petplan cost

Hi, just wondering how much everyone is paying if they have a cat/kitten insured with pet plan? Smile

They’ve quoted me £14.50 per month for classic and £16.60 a month for classic + insurance. Probably going to go with classic + but hoping it doesn’t hike up too much year after year Smile

I went with Bought by Many as I found Petplan was too pricey especially as I had 2 cats to insure

You get what you pay for. Petplan pay out reliably and are easy to deal with when you're upset and worried. Worth every penny IMO.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/07/2021 22:36

I can't fault Tesco. They've been brilliant with my 22k of claims.

Bought by Many paid out with no issues when I claimed and it was all done online. I have a lifetime policy that pays out up to £15k per year per cat

There’s no peace of mind like Petplan. They paid out for a drug that isn’t even liscenced in the UK to save our kitten when he got FIP (Feline Peritonitis)

UpHillandDownAle · 18/07/2021 22:57

I agree that I have found petplan to be worth every penny.

Kittekats · 18/07/2021 23:06

I found pet plan went up by a good chunk each year despite not claiming. We now insure with Agria which was recommended by the cattery. We still haven’t claimed but it is cheaper.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/07/2021 06:38

My parents were with Tesco but changed to Agria and are massively regretting it.

dementedpixie · 19/07/2021 06:53

I was with Tesco for the 1st year but the premium jumped in year 2 so I switched. Been with BBM for the last 2 or 3 years I think and have claimed once for one of my cats

Angel2702 · 19/07/2021 06:56

Pet plan does go up each year based on age of cat think it’s over £35 a month now for our 9 year old cat. Started at £15.

It is definitely worth the money, only policy we found that covers dental issues. Our policy doesn’t charge you a proportion of the bill as they get older, a lot of cheaper ones charge you excess plus part of bill and can still end up with huge bills.

RosesAndHellebores · 19/07/2021 07:00

£67pcm with Pet Plan which pays 80% of claims and has a £135 excess. Cat is 13. We have broken even and he now has arthritis so won't be changing

caringcarer · 19/07/2021 07:28

After spending a fortune with Pet Plan for our previous cat who eventually died at 18 and the policy went up every year and we had to pay excess too. With our current cats we put £x amount into ISA every month and if cats are unwell money is there for vet but if not used we will give to son towards his deposit. Son is not aware of this.

Rebelmcstreettuff · 19/07/2021 08:05

Avoid Petplan.....thieves and liars.
Was paying £70 a month for my pedigree dog, when he needed an op they tried to get out of paying.
Had no reason for this,I had paid my premiums for 2 years.
Was very angry, they were recommended by the vets who were useless in resolving the situation.
I had to threaten them with the ombudsman, funnily enough the bill was then paid.
Disgusting service.....

herewegogc · 19/07/2021 08:46

Not had a good experience with petplan - refused to pay up for one of my cat's dental issues. Now with John Lewis and have had no problems.

Ibizafun · 19/07/2021 17:03

Our Petplan premiums are guaranteed not to increase for 10 years. There’s always someone who’s had a bad experience with any company but they paid up immediately for us with no delays

dillydallydollydaydream7 · 19/07/2021 17:30

Agree with others, worth every penny. We pay around £48 a month for our springer and speaking from experience they have paid out previously no questions asked. A few years ago ddog needed bloods sent to a specialist lab in France (very long story but he was really unwell) and that alone was £2000. We only paid the £70 excess

Kittekats · 19/07/2021 20:37

@Toddlerteaplease Can I ask why your parents are regretting the move to Agria please? No claims experience here but cattery owner (ex breeder) rated them.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/07/2021 20:47

Because they have still not settled a claim
From ages ago. But to be fair, it's because my parents changed vet, and their previous practice had also changed hands . So they were struggling to locate his records.

Futureself · 19/07/2021 20:56

Been with Animal Friends for a few years with my 8yo cat and dog . Lifetime policies for really good rate. Worth getting a quote. They paid our vet bill with no issues.

Mpsister · 20/07/2021 20:45

I pay just over £35 per month with Petplan.

MilduraS · 20/07/2021 20:56

I'm with helpucover and pay £38pcm for a 5 year old British shorthair with a severe heart murmur. We've claimed about £1,000 for diagnostics and she's on regular medicine for her blood pressure.

It was £35 for our 4 year old Bengal who had to be PTS recently. We claimed £1,000 out of £4,500 when she broke her leg (DH didn't put her on premium insurance 🤦🏻‍♀️). Then over the past year claimed another £6,000 for treatment for her congestive heart failure and regular small fees for several tablets.

They've always paid the vets direct and haven't questioned the fees as far as we know.

AnnaMagnani · 21/07/2021 14:41

Depends on the cat. I've always been very happy with Direct Line - dead easy to claim, the vets do it on line and like it, they pay out very quickly. You get a multi-cat discount.

However cats are cheap to insure when they are young and nothing wrong with them, by the time they are 16 with renal failure you are paying a lot more.
