17 year old cat declining

Hi all.
Would just like to say I have an appointment booked with the vet at lunchtime to get her checked over but just wondered if anyone had a similar experience.

So my cat is 17 years old, have been giving her Thyronorm to control high thyroid for roughly about 3 years now. She has regular bloods done and she has been ok but kidney function is very slowly declining.

All had been good until very recently. She's started to do what sounds like a coughing fit which lasts max around 10 seconds i would say. This maybe once every few days (although i guess she could be doing it through the night and i wouldn't know)

She's always been a bit fussy with food and does have her off days however these off days seem to be becoming more and more frequent and at the moment she's barely eating anything, i can feel and see that she has lost weight. A couple of days ago I noticed a small amount of blood coming from her nose, cleaned her up and wondered if she'd maybe knocked herself but I have since found blood sprayed on one of my windows where she sits and then this morning early hours I woke up to her sneezing and spraying blood everywhere Sad

I'm just so worried, she's like my little baby and I can't help wondering if she's coming to the end of life stage. Has anyone had anything similar and it was treatable?

So sorry. Is it possible that she has eaten any of the recently recalled dry food? The symptoms sound similar

The coughing is possibly an effect of the enlarged thyroid, ours had a thyroid cough. As for the blood, it's maybe just a burst blood vessel from the coughing? Try not to worry too much, although 17 is a grand ageso it's always best to be prepared, hopefully the vet will have recommendations.

How did the vet visit go? Hope your DCat is doing okBrew

Thank you all. The vet has given her an antibiotic injection to see if we have any improvement come the weekend. He said we have to think about her quality of life which of course will always come before our feelings or emotions. But he did say if there's no improvement we will most likely have to euthanise her. Fingers crossed the injection helps Sad
