The actual litter tray

Thanks for all your advice on my previous thread after adopting 3 cats 19 days ago.

Today's question is on their litter tray. They have 2 big trays, one covered and one uncovered. They tend to favour the uncovered one but do use both. The covered one is bigger. I scoop poops immediately and I sprinkle a deodorising powder on their litter after they use their trays. I last cleaned them out in full a week ago and although the litter is quite yellow in one tray it doesn't smell and they are still using it and favouring it.

Should I empty and refill in full weekly regardless or just when it looks like it needs it. The litter trays are big and ive gone through a full 15L bag to ensure the trays have plenty litter in them. They used Sanicat Diamond litter in their Laayoune home so I bought more of that but it's expensive!

I'd use clumping litter and then pee and poo can be removed. The litter then lasts longer before you need to clean the whole tray out

I use clumping too and only do a full change once a month. If they are only using one tray, I'd get rid of the others. My two happily share.

Like the others - use clumping litter and scoop wee and poo daily. I have three cats and a 40L bag of "World's Best" from ZooPlus lasts about three months and costs £17.99.

I was using clumping and found a full clean once a fortnight on bin day and felt guilty

Then I watched a YouTube video by the company and they said it could left longer as your taking out the wee and poo and it doesn't taint the rest

I use clumping litter and honestly can't remember the last time I did a full change. It never smells and I have the litter deep so the wee never gets to the bottom

Try looking at vancat litter; amazing x

I have five indoor cats. They evidently cannot read the cat bible as they all use the same litter tray.
I use around 10l per week of clumping sanicat litter from b and m - £3.99?
The tray is scooped and topped up as they use it. I empty and completely clean the entire tray around 10-14 days. Sometimes sooner, depends on how quickly it need it.

I use silica litter too, the stuff from B&M in a red bag, it’s £3 a bag and deep fills a large tray. Scoop as needed and if lasts a week to a week and a half until saturated, 1 big cat. I’ve found silica by far the easiest, clumping just sticks to the bottom and is a nightmare. I think I worked out each bag Is about 3.8L so cheaper than sanicat

You can buy liners so that the litter doesn't stick to the trays @FelicityBeedle Smile

We get ours off ZooPlus but they sell them in most pet shops. Line the litter tray, fill with litter and remove clumps etc. as normal. Then when you do a full change you just remove the liner (with all the litter) and replace.

It's made changing the trays into a five minute job not a 15 minute one as they don't need to be washed and cleaned out now Grin
