Programming Catsafe Microchip catflap

Hi

I have bought and had installed the dual scan catsafe microchip catflap.

I think I have programmed my cat into it - I pressed the memory button and the green light flashed and my cat passed through the door. So I assume he will now be remembered. But - I expected it to lock straight after he went through it, and it hasn’t. It is still just freely open for any cat to go through

Am I missing a step in the process? Advice much appreciated

Should the light be solid red in normal operation ie after programming? So that it is locked until my cat comes through the flap?

The light on mine only flashes if the batteries are low. Otherwise its not lit
Do you mean it's a Petsafe flap?

dementedpixie · 26/06/2021 22:22

Or its a sureflap dual scan?

hardheadedwoman · 26/06/2021 22:24

It’s a sureflap dualscan. I put different batteries in and now it’s working great. Cat is a bit fazed by the unlocking sound. How long does it normally take for them to be comfortable with going in and out?

One of mine was fine with it in a few days but the other took a few weeks. I used to tape it open and try and tempt them through with dreamies

We bribed cat 1 in about 3 minutes.
Cat 2 took a couple of sessions of maybe 10 mins with dreemies.

I programmed mine (not the dualscan, the curfew one but same idea and make) by putting it over my cats' heads before installing it in my door Grin

Took them about two weeks to be ok with the noise it makes and they do sometimes use it like a doorbell if they can see me inside - one sticks her head in and lets it click click click till I get up and open the back door Blush

Mine ask to get out the back sliding doors and then go round the house and back in the flap (or vice versa!)

Good to hear! I’m going on holiday next Friday and my son is looking after the cats but he is in a converted garage hence us fitting the catflap. I hope he learns it by then!! He just came in, but with encouragement and me holding the flap up 🤞

That’s adorable. You learnt that without her having to use treats as well.

Mine does the doorbell thing as well. I've only just worked it out. I was worried the door was sticking and he was struggling. Then he started rattling it when he wants out. Interestingly it's the one of my pair that I had always thought was a bit dim but obviously not.

hilariousnamehere · 28/06/2021 22:44

@Fluffycloudland77 so I did! I should have demanded chocolate... Grin

@helpfulperson I thought the same until I caught her looking up at me between clicks and then realised she'd clocked I would open the door instead!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 29/06/2021 19:36

My cat is so good with his. He puts his head inside the tunnel thing and waits for the clicks.

He must know somehow if it’s locked when he’s inside because he looks at the dial and walks off. If I adjust it to open he looks at the dial and goes through. He is cleverer than I give him credit for.
