Soon to be 1 yr old kitten quite frequently vomits

We have 4 cats but I've never known this with the others. This kitten has been sick maybe 9/10 times in the past 11 months of her life, so roughly every 3-4 weeks since we've had her.

She is the only one of our cats who brings animals in (2 birds, 1 mouse) so far.

She eats James Wellbeloved dry food and whiskers kitten food, with the occasional treat of Cat Milk and Dreamies.

She is only ever sick once in the home but then she scurries off so I don't know if she vomits further. She's quite slight rather than plump, but her mum was very dainty too. She's very much an outdoor cat, spending most of the night outdoors whilst the weather is fine.

Any ideas what might be causing her to be sick? Her sibling from the same litter has never been sick to my knowledge, not once in our home!

Is she regularly wormed? Worms, hairballs and food allergy would be on my checklist.

Vomiting every four weeks or so doesn't sound that unusual to me.
Mine have hairballs fairly regularly and I've had cats in the past who would bolt their food and then yak it up on a tediously regular schedule.
Also take-away food (rodents) can disagree with them occasionally...

She's short haired and there's never any fur in the vomit. Yes she's worked using Profender every 3 months.

It would make sense if she's eating outside the home to be honest. As she's the only one bringing animals home. But I can't be sure.

Our tiny girl vomits every month or so. I took her to the vets and they explained her stomach is probably only the size of a ping pong ball and I was possibly feeding her too much. Its hard to judge as my boy cat and last cat is/was huge! Anyway I've cut down what i feed her and I also mush up her food and its been a good few months that shes not been sick, not including hairballs.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/06/2021 11:12

Mine vomited several times a day before changing her food. Every 3-4 weeks sounds ok. Some cats are just sicky.

I'm
Not sure about the ping pong ball sized stomach theory! I think my two are all stomach.

noshiforever · 24/06/2021 12:14

She is small/dainty just like her mum so maybe she has just overeaten.

Sounds like I don't need to worry too much, since she is regularly wormed and not vomiting overly frequently!

Thanks all!

Is it digested food/older stomach contents or relatively Normal looking food? ..... I only ask because my cats quite frequently throw up food hat they clearly have eaten too quickly and had to bounce back out

noshiforever · 24/06/2021 12:57

Recently it's been fully formed and looks barely chewed/digested

That's the same as our girl. It was like the chunks were too big for her which is why i mash it up 1st.

I don't think once a month is that unusual in a young cat. Not ideal, obviously, but it wouldn't worry me either.

Have you tried feeding her via a treat ball or slow-feeding bowl so she can't bolt her food?

One of mine sometimes sicks up biscuits that are just whole - there's nothing wrong with him, he's just a pig Grin
