Here's a link with more information in the recall.

My 2 cats are on the Ava dry food. I spoke to Pets at hHome on live chat this morning and they said to take it back instore for a refund or to switch with another brand.

Hopefully everyone's kitties are fine if they've been eating this food 🤞

My lot were on Applaws Dry Chicken (purchased via Amazon, who, when contacted, were very swift in issuing refunds and apologies, and told me to dispose of it as I wish).

On that note, can anyone recommend grain free day food that I can buy in larger quantities? I have six cats and go through approx 8kg a month.

Dry food, not day food Confused

Effsee · 17/06/2021 22:11

I switched Ava dry cat food for Royal Canin dry food. I'm not entirely sure on grain free, but when I spoke to pets at home on live chat the lady gave me recommendations based on the food that I had been using.
Maybe try asking them for a recommendation on live chat?

@Shmithecat2 we swapped from Applaws to Purizon because my cats were getting a little podgy on Applaws and Purizon do a neutered cats option with slightly less calories. I am so very glad I did as well now! Zooplus sell large bags (6.5kg) for £35

Here

Thanks both! Will have a look at both recommendations. I bought Seriously Good Bistro today from Pets at Home try. Seems like a winner, but only PAH sell it, the largest bag it comes in is 2.5kg, and their supply is sketchy to say the least.

I feed this. No complaints from the recipient. www.littlebigpaw.co.uk/cat-food-range/

Purizon or feringa both available from.zooplus in bulk.

My 2 have had a couple of trial bags of applaws in last few months and I had a 7.5kg bag ready to start when they finished current bag of hills prescription metabolic. Have now bought some purizon instead

I'm worried it's going to affect them and am keeping really close eye on them

Seriously Good Bistro

Check the factory code on the packaging. Although this isn't on the recall list I helieve some of it is produced in the same factory.
If it has code 'GB218E5009' I personally wouldn't use it.

Closetbeanmuncher · 18/06/2021 08:52

That's at least twice now ava has been recalled. Won't be buying that ever again.

We had a bag of this from the factory that made the recalled food - I didn’t want to risk it so it’s now in the bin but my cats do like it!

So on Wednesday night I contacted pets at home via their website about the issue with the cat food and how to get a refund. The following morning I went on live chat to see if I could get a quicker response.

Anyway I got an email back from them today basically saying that if I had ordered food from them in store or online, they will cover consultation fees at the vets and the costs of blood tests if the vets deem it necessary, as a sign of goodwill.

If you're worried about your cats after they've eaten the food, it's worth enquiring with pets at home about covering cost of vet fees. Obviously they'd need invoices from the vets and your cats medical history.

Hope all your cats are still healthy and doing well 👍
