Has anyone got experience of cats with spinal injuries?

Our lovely Cat has been mostly likely been hit by a car, we have taken her to the vets and they have done an x Ray which has shown up a break in a non weight bearing area on her hip which they said would be fine, but the clinical signs are that she has a spinal injury. She can’t move her back legs and isn’t weeing or pooing but did so under anathestic. I asked about an MRI, but they said that even with a spinal soft tissue damage she is unlikely to make a full recovery. The only treatment is a wait and see approach at the moment.
We’ve been asked to make a decision on what to do next, have any of you had a cat who’s made it through this sort of thing?
Part of me wants to carry on with trying to treat her and see if she regains any sensation in the next few days, but I don’t know if that’s me just wanting her to pull through and I want to do whats best for my lovely girl too 😭.
Has anyone got any experience?

I have experience - my cat is still with me now 7 years after his spinal injury. I was living overseas at the time in a country with little veterinary care and so options were limited. I had no choice other than to give him time, but I'm glad I did as he regained control of both the weeing and pooing though it did take a number of days. It's possible that swelling from the accident is compressing the nerves in the back and causing the toileting issues and lack of movement in the back legs. My advice would be don't rush your decision, give it time and then re-assess.

Our cat was grabbed from a bush by a dog and had a severe spinal injury which left his rear end paralysed.

He didn't indicate that he was in pain but didn't seem to understand why he couldn't walk and became distressed so we made the decision to put him to sleep.

Give yourself some time and discuss your options with the vet. Wishing her a speedy recovery.
